Not everybody looks on Swap Central though so jramjee wasn't expected to know, I only figured when you mentioned it so traced back hd82's last few posts and it was indeed in Swap Central that she mentions it - jramjee isn't a stalker like the rest of us!

Odd, I guess my post didn't post! But I def wrote one to the effect of what I wrote just above. We waited till about 7pm, until the manager told us it wasn't gonna work. Cos they have digitised all their cinemas now, all films are remotely controlled from some central hub, so if the file corrupts there is nothing the cinema can do about it. Bring back reels and projectionists I say!!
Might have to start avoiding Greenwich screenings now. This happened to me twice - once at X-Men when the screening just completely crashed (behaving like a CPU running at 100%) so they had to restart it entirely and then again at Super 8 although that was very brief only.
I agree - bring back reels and projectionists.

I saw this at a packed Norwich and really enjoyed it! I'd seen the trailer and wasn't that impressed but I was pleasantly surprised. Bit cheesy but the robots were cool and the characters were engaging.

I was unable to attend, so gave my tickets to my brother and nieces and they were all surprised by how much they enjoyed it.

I saw this last night at a very packed Switch Island Liverpool and really enjoyed it. Loved the fighting robots and thought that the dance sequences with the robot were really clever. I liked Hugh Jackman's portrayal of the father, but thought that the boy who played his son, had all the best dialogue. He was funny and cute! Dakota Goyo is going to be a name to look out for in the future.

I wasn't entirely sure that I would enjoy this film but as my best friend LOVES Hugh Jackman I took her along to see it and I have to say though I didn't have the highest of expectations I really really enjoyed it. I think it wouldn't have had the same impact on me if I had waited to see it on DVD.
The kid was brilliant and the the relationship he built with his father and with the robot both felt quite real, as real as you can get with a robot.
As for the robot fighting I didn't think I'd enjoy that but I actually found that I was almost on the edge of my seat and struggling to sit still! I felt like I was there in the thick of it. Another film (like Super 8) that proves you don't need to use 3D to make people feel like they are there and involved.
There were some children there at the screening in Kingston who I instantly thought were too young for it even before the film started. They looked maybe 6 and 7 and as expected the film didn't really hold their attention and every now and then I could see them running around and hear them talking and such. I'm not sure people understand the difference between a 12a and a PG or U rating. I mean sure take in a 10 year old to a 12a fighting robot film, but not a 6 year old. It's not a cartoon.

i saw this movie last night and i have to say, it shouldve been called "robot rocky". that is by no means a negative comment as i really enjoyed the movie. the young actor who plays hugh jackmans son stole the show in my opinion but overall i would definitely recommend any parents out there take the kids to see this. ( kids over 10). my rating, 10/10

Seen this in Cardiff last night. About 80% full. Seems like others here I was not really expecting to like the film and said so to OH on the way in - also asked him not to fall asleep, a trend he has taken to over the last few films.
I needn't to have worried, he was awake for the entire film, really enjoyed the robots fighting and the story line. I also thought of 'Rocky' and wondered if they would have him - Atom, running up the steps of a building. Was a much, much better film than I thought it was going to be, I just hope that Dakota can keep a grip on reality and his career.
I just wish that there was something more for the robot- Atom at the end.

I'll give you my summarised views that I wrote for my blog:
"I was extremely sceptical before going to see Real Steel, and I put that entirely down to Michael Bay and the Transformers franchise for making the idea of robots that fight so completely dull and stupid. I'm delighted to say I was wrong. Real Steel quickly dispels any robotic similarities between Transformers and itself by having competent actors which have great chemistry, and a plot which doesn't centre entirely around robots endlessly clunking and clanging together. At the heart of this film is a lost relationship between father and son, and, as cheesy as it may become at times, I was completely entertained throughout, as were my two younger brothers."
Four stars!
