Couldn't get to a preview so, to those of you who have seen it, is it worth me seeing it this week when I have one slot available before my plays, please? Cost is not a factor as there are plenty of cheap performances late AM including at Vues, where it would be even cheaper with some Nectar points; all that concerns me is, would this film be a good use of my time? (And if not, what on earth else is left instead?)

Yes, critics and public alike seem united on that one. Rating on IMDB however still surprisingly low; had expected UK release to change that somewhat and possibly upwards but not so far.

Thanks to jeancomp and anakin for the advice; I did indeed see this yesterday (and very cheaply, given the time) and was glad I had. Not being a Londoner and thus unable to attend as many previews has its advantages sometimes as though I get fed up when there are none in my area, if I were able to see everything at the preview stage, I'd have fewer films to choose from on occasions such as this.

Was this film disrespectful, empowering, even boring? Here's what I thought...

I've got some vouchers to use so may use 1 to see this even if just to see Meryl Streep's performance. I'm not really that surprised that film has not risen on IMDB as many people have memories of the effects of her policies and are voting accordingly!
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley
Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston

I grew up a child of Thatcher but there was never much love for her or her policies in our household particularly in Scotland.

I wanted to see this for Meryl Streep's performance amongst other things.

Edinburgh Cineworld was packed last night which surprised me, as it has now been out for weeks.

Meryl Streep really does capture her in her MP/PM time especially well and even in present day she is captivating in the role and the ageing make-up is excellent especially when you compare how poor thhe ageing was in J Edgar albeit they were not moving up so many years.

There was very little politics in the film and maybe that was to make it appeal to other audiences other than the UK? I wanted more politics out of it, but I actually enjoyed the film on a whole.

Should it have been made? Probably not yet.

Obviously Meryl is amazing (when is she not?) but I found that for my Irish boyfriend, without a real understanding of British history, it was a bit hard for him to follow without really at least a basic knowledge of UK history during Thatcher's era. I enjoyed that it was definitely a feminist movie, highlighting issues that women in politics still do face.

I quite liked the film. But I treated it as a film more than a history lesson, as I'm sure there was a lot of artistic licence used! I agree that the beginning (scenes with her husband) could have been shortened - it dragged a little but didn't mind the flashbacks. I thought that Streep gave a solid performance. I actually wanted to read more about the time she was in power after watching this!
