I do think that the main bone of contention with this film has been the overwhelmingly deceitful trailers and posters that are being used to entice people to go and see this. I totally agree that the film is so far removed from either advertising strategy as to be almost dishonest. This, however does not detract from what is an amazing film.
I, too, make a point of not viewing propaganda for a movie before seeing (but only for free previews). My reasoning is that as it is free I will be going to see it, therefore I'd prefer not to have my judgement coloured by prior opinion of others. That way I can formulate my own opinion. In the case of Locke, my preconception was that it was a superhero-type film! How wrong I was, but that was only based on the picture in the poster.
On the other hand, if I was choosing a film to go and see, and thus p*y for, I would want as much ACCURATE information as possible to enable me to determine which way to point my pennies and which film I'd like most. If I had applied this to Locke I think I would have been less enthusiastic about the film, maybe even disappointed? This wouldn't change how good or otherwise the film was though.

This evening's Fargo on Channel 4 would be another good example. I, for my sins, have never seen nor know anything about the movie Fargo, yet I am choosing to watch the TV show based on it having Martin Freeman in it. No idea whether it is a comedy, horror, thriller etc. Hopefully I will enjoy.

Sh@t, I thought the ad said 'Morgan Freeman'. I've recorded it too partly cos of that. Don't know who Martin is, but OH has just enlightened me. I know I'm behind if he knows better than me.

PS Aunty used to decide whether she would like a film based on what Celini thought of it. If Celini liked it, Aunty would think she wouldn't .

Martin Freeman is Bilbo in the Hobbit movies, John Watson in Sherlock and the star of The Office series :) I hope you like him, I think he is one of our most talented subtle comic actors. He is a master of reactionary expressions. I am watching the series too solely on the fact he is in it but Morgan Freeman would have also spiked my curiosity!

I know that if Beate and Andrews love a film I most certainly will and as you say if certain others like it I probably won't  But I have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised by quite a few films that I wasn't sure if they were my thing - teaches me not to be my opinionated self ;)

I love listening to other people's opinions which assist me in making my decisions in fun things in life - I call it making an informed choice. Of course everybody is entitled to their own opinion but also as adults we have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. I don't often intervene in heated debates but when it is getting too personal I will and I enjoy reading your posts MsThrifty so please don't stop posting.

Yes she went (look back a page) hence some FMUKers had a bit of a 'discussion' yesterday.

Ah yes so she did. Its a shame that all our discussions were a bit spoilerific :(

I was reading about the filming by the Director, and they didn't even go to BMW for a tie in

Just got back from seeing this & I thought it was decent with a reasonably solid performance from Hardy.

I was a little disappointed that there weren't any real shocks or dark turns at the end but as I was reasonably entertained throughout it's relatively short running time I think it did just enough to get a 7/10 from me...

Definitely a "Marmite" film and as has been said already, the advertising campaign for it was downright deceitful. So much so that it left a foul tatse in my mouth after viewing the film.

Setting that aside, the film itself is impressive for what it is but it most definitely would not have been something I would have chosen to watch.

A good attempt to try something different but I got bored about half way through. Not sure what accent Tom was supposed to be doing either. 4/10.
