Re: Whip It
I saw this tonight and when they started skating, all I could think of was "When are they going to fire the metal ball?".

Re: Whip It
I saw this at Piccadilly on Monday, I had been looking forward to it so was pleased I managed to get tickets - especially as the Apollo's quite lush and comfy. I really enjoyed it, I'm not a teenager or into schmaltz but really enjoyed it. I knew what to expect, and the premise of roller derby girls telling people to be their own heroes had me already, but actually was better than i thought it would be. I'm a fan of Drew Barrymore and think a lot of thought went into some of the scenes, but she also kept the fun in it, but in quite a wholesome way rather than a forced 'here's the fun part' way. Was interested in the characters, good one liners and loved all the roller derby shots.
There are films I really loved at the cinema but wouldn't want to see again in a hurry, this hit the spot for me and would happily see again. Maybe was a manic Monday and needed something completely different after work, but I have only good things to say!

Re: Whip It
Yes, saw this last night at Wester Hailes in Edinburgh. it was only 1/2 full but then again this is miles out of Edinburgh centre and it was sleeting and horribly windy! The weather got worse when I left so that was the bad part of the evening.
The good part was meeting marjoreemarjora and I hope we get a longer chat next time, and actually the film. I thought it was going to be rubbish but my inner child obviuosly surfaced and I really enjoyed it. I thought Drew Barrymore was possibly one of the weaker links, on the acting front but she seemed to do a good enough job on the directing. Ellen Page was very good.
A surpised 7/10 from me.

hehe Rollerball (the James Caan one) is one of my fav films. I must check if I've actually got it at home or b*y it if not vxsteve9872 wrote:I saw this tonight and when they started skating, all I could think of was "When are they going to fire the metal ball?".

Re: Whip It
With Date Night being postponed I was very happy that I didn't have a chance to cancel my 2 sky tickets and left it till last moment. It was watchable, and quite funny. Liked the Dad character. Wouldn't watch it if it wasn't for free...

Re: Whip It
I saw this last week with anjirose, and must admit, I rather enjoyed it. There were some great performances although Drew Barrymore's character annoyed me somewhat. Ellen Page was very good indeed.
It reminded me of Rollerball with James Caan, but I think Whip It wasn't nearly as violent.
7/10 from me.
