Just watch it at Bournemouth in a half filled cinema which was a shame as so many people were after tickets. The film itself was entertaining and easy on the eye and mind so dont think how and why to the story line just enjoy.

I didn't like this as much I was hoping to, then again I can't abide Tom Cruise (except for in Valkyrie). Boyf liked this more than I did, I suspect it might have been the Cameron-bikini effect but he assures me it was the action shots, yeah right. This film seemed to go on for yonks and yonks and yonks but in reality it wasn't really that long. The story seemed repetitious too, action, drugged, a little bit of funny, action, drugged, a little bit of funny etc etc....repeat to fade. Hope they don't make any "look what amazing and hilarious scrapes we get ourselves into and out of" sequels. errrm a generous 6/10 from us.

oh and btw apart from Preston, where were all the other north-east fmukkers last night?

Saw this at Odeon Greenwich yesterday, and they didn’t let us up in the screen until 6.30 because the film before had not finished. So by the time we all get in and settled and the film started I think it was about 6.50. At this point the cinema was about 80-90% packed, with only the front couple rows or so empty.

The film itself I would have to say was just above average. If it didn’t have TC and CD as the main actors I would say the film would have failed very badly. TC had some good one liners which kept the film going just about. CD you could is getting on abit and the same for TC. But somehow they managed to put this one off, just about.

    6.5

PS. No brain needed to see this film, so please leave it at home as it will get bored at the cinema.

As a Northerner (now living in London), I must admit being dazzled by the moving pictures and loud sounds - But sadly that was about it! In fact, I think I could have watched the movie with just the sound of the explosions and gunfire and it would have been just as entertaining as the dialogue of the script added nothing to the film.

Tom Cruise was in classic Mission Impossible II territory (albeit with a few more wise-cracks), as this film felt like a sequence of action scenes devised by the writer with a very loose story line connecting them together like it was an after thought.

Cameron Diaz was equally in a role she has played so many times before, acting all ditzy and clumsy yet some how impervious to rapid gunfire despite being surrounded by 20 guys with machine guns!

That said I don't know if you can expect anything more from a hollywood summer release with two high profile celebrities. It seems the studios try so hard to appeal to everyone that it's not an ideal movie for anyone ... its just average.

I agree with those that thought it was a cheesy, fun film but if you enter the movie expecting more you will be disappointed by another loud, brash and rather pointless film.

Maybe I am a bit more Southern than I let on then, but in the interest of diplomacy I'm going to sit on the fence and give the movie 5 out of 10.

No, it's still a terrible, terrible film. But the real conundrum here is, how does James Mangold go from directing two brilliant films ('Walk The Line' and '3:10 To Yuma') in the past five years, to...well, this? When will people learn that simply having two well-known actors in the lead roles does not automatically create a 'good narrative'?

ok, i am pretty sure theres NO SPOILERS IN THIS, so please read.

withouth cruise and diaz this would have been somewhat less of a movie.

consider - as you watch the film, in the back of your mind, you are thinking its another Mission Impossible movie, becos of the exaggerated action sequences, but mainly becos you are looking at the man who played Ethan Hawke, except he's gone nutjob. it works becos Mission Impossible provide such a rich tapestry of background for the movie... its as if it doesnt need an explanation for the idea to form in your mind.

and then theres a second layer, provided by Cameron Diaz's presence. Cruise and Cameron played dream-buddies in Vanilla SKy - so immediately you are presented with the idea that THIS Cruise/Roy Miller in NIGHT AND DAY might really be off his head like he was in Vanilla Sky.

theres this two opposite threads that are presented immediately with the casting of the pair. the film history of these two actors provided a rich precendent, which stars like, say, Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston wouldnt carry.

After such an interesting set-up, its a pity the film ended on a damp squib then. Well, i thought it was, you may think different, perhaps it was a great ending! (there NO spoilers:D)
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

I saw this last week, thought it was a good film; story was easy to follow and I didn’t have to think much. Tom Cruise has definitely still got it, but I thought Cameron Diaz looked a bit old. At times it came across as a spoof film, but they didn’t seem to care!!
    8/10.
