Re: The Diary Room
Is that your code name, Beate . . . Olympus?Beate wrote:Bloody hell, I haven't seen so much armed police on the streets since my holiday in Israel many moons ago. The streets around St Pauls are full with police, barriers, boulders, camera set-ups etc. I walked around a corner and there were two policemen with machine guns so I involuntarily put my hands up! Made them smile.
If they start shooting, Olympus has fallen.
I can welll imagine the look on the faces of the policeman at your "hands up" . . .lol :)

Re: The Diary Room
Could people who have read my book do me a HUGE favour and email me their ratings?
And if possible, the ratings from your children too?
It would be much appreciated and go great for the evaluation for my project.
Please and thank you

Re: The Diary Room
When I was a kiddo growing up, there was this guy at college that was really cool as fcuk and always got the girls. And he even got the girl I was interested in. Instead of hating him, I tried to work out what he had that I didn't. And one day on a visit over to his house, it transpired that what he had that I didnt was a CD collection in his bedroom with lots of Queen and Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds soundtrack. Surely this was what I was missing? I set about building a CD collection with War of the Worlds and Queen as mainstays and waited for the chicks to come flocking.
A decade and a half later, no chicks have flocked to my door, so it wasnt the CD collection after all. Which brings me to that Jeff Wayne War of The Worlds show of his CD, which I saw at the cinema last week.
Great technical wizardy aside I was a little disappointed tbh. The songs are mainly poorly written, often consisting of the same line sung again and again and again. I challenge you to count the number of 'They said they'd never come' and 'No Nathaniel No!'s you hear if you disagree. Its brain numbing listening to them repeat these lines like broken records. If I was Jeff Wayne I wouldn't connect my name to the songs on offer here, a freaking Nim Chimpsky could write them (and perhaps he did).
The orchestra by comparison was great, sounding as if they'd been recruited from a late 70s prog rock group, as was the holography for Liam Neeson, and my favourite character after him was the Artillery Man/Bunker guy who was the only live actor who put in a good performance. Liam excelled as the journalist's narrative. But why was Jason Donovan in the cast? He ruined his part with constant overacting, and he could never sing anyway in the first place. A real waste.
The special effects were great and the show was actually about 70% made up of a backdrop movie, but perhaps that was part of the problem, you know - this show, like the huge but ultimately underwhelming tripod with its huge 3 legs that descends during Act One, straddles too many niches (musical, movie and mechanical wizardry) but doesn't really excel in any one of them.
