Saw this tonight at 20th Century Fox courtesy of Beate. First about the venue - people have probably been here before but it was my first time. Not much security - they asked me to confirm my email address (which luckily I had noticed) rather than name but that was about it. I wandered in and out while I waited. As we went in, the charming / hilarious security guard asked us if we could prove to him we knew how ot turn our phones off. So taken aback at how similar he was (in character, voice and face) to a friend of ours, we happily obliged. He was lovely! Nice big comfy (and clean! bonus!) seats to watch this, the only downside was that two people came in 10 minutes late, talked to people they asked to move and then stood up removing coats etc at their leisure, right in front of us!

Anyway, we both loved this! Most of the good things I want to say have been said several times before. The cast was perfect, some classic lines that had is laughing out loud (or cringing!)... The music, the colours, the crazy driving... all part of India's charm. It left me hungry for a good Indian meal (ie in need of a trip to my mum's for a feed) as well as wanting to go back to India. I appreciate the frustration some people had with the pace and length of the film, but I thought the pace reflected their new lives and the length didn't bother me. Definitely want to see this again and wish there were more screenings I could make it to. Shall be keeping my eyes peeled!

8.5/10

I wonder whether the book would delve more deeply into the characters? Has anyone read it?

Thanks, I saw that, but I have the same problem as others in that there's not one anywhere near me :(

BTW, has anyone ever met such a nice High Court Judge?! Aren't they all grumpy and mean??

Loved this film, great characters, loads of laughs and was a feel good film. Dev Patel stole the show for me.

Been reading the book (was lucky enough to find it on a book swap shelf at work) and also loved it. However, was very different from the film. Characters were slightly different to what I expected and the storylines different for some characters. Actually thought the book maybe helped me care slightly more about the characters then the film. But after switching off from comparing them I appreciated the film ALOT more.

9/10 :)

I had tickets for this on 12th missed it because the car battery had gone flat. Had tickets for it again tonight and missed because my train was delayed by a fatality on the line! Think there must be subliminal message there!
