Re: Young Adult
Great review! "Darkly rich" or "richly dark" sums it up nicely. Watching it felt like taking a huge bite into the darkest, thickest, bitterest, 90% cocoa-content chocolate you could ever hope to taste:)sikmansam wrote:Review complete! Take a look:
Usually Claudia Winkleman annoys me with every film and performance being "absolutely brilliant" on Film 2012. But this time she's redeemed herself with last night's review...

Re: Young Adult
I definitely enjoyed this film especially the dark humour. I thought Charlize Theron performance was brilliant. It's a shame that her performance did not get any Oscar nominations. That poor dog!!

Re: Young Adult
Delayed post, but also saw this at WIQ last week (also now realised that *was* Beate heading up the queue, but wasn't sure at the time so didnt say hello!)
A lot's been said already. I found afterwards I didn't really know how to describe it to other people. I saw the trailer and thought meh, but started reading lots of amazing reviews, so decided to give it a go. It was a bit disappointing and a bit slow, but I didn't hate it. Charlize and impending (metaphorical) car wreck in waiting were watchable. What I didn't like so much (and this goes for Juno and Jennifer's Body too) is the 'how cool and knife sharp witty is this bit of dialogue' that feels a bit smug and apparently makes up for any naff scenes (which it doesn't). That would be my main complaint.
I quite liked the no real lesson learned part.
5/10 from me, was happy enough to watch it but wouldn't really recommend it!

Re: Young Adult
Finally got to see this. Thanks to valda for taking me to my second film this week, when I was despairing of having none this week! It was nice to have some snacks and a glass of wine before the screening at Paramount, but surprised it was half empty, just a handful of 8 people.
This was actually quite a decent film, not as bad as I was expecting. I hadn't read all the reviews and did not know it is supposed to be a comedy! I did not laugh once and I did not hear anyone else laugh. It was more drama than comedy, and I thought very thought provoking. Although a boring start, it was watchable as you see her loneliness and lunacy unfolds, but a very good portrayal by Charlize Theron nevertheless, of a really horrible character, so unlikeable. 7/10

Re: Young Adult
i did finish the movie this time, and it kinda was shite, but not entirely painful. Jokes? more like seriously black comedy. The movie was a good idea in principle but it needed much more than it was, though it was interesting to think that school chums who you thought would be flying might well be struggling big time. And lol you get to see Therzon naked, blimey she needs to stay out the sun, her skin looks like sandpaper now at only 30.

Re: Young Adult
I thought Charlize Theron gave a good performance, but I could not see a point to the film and was uncomfortable about her character's mental illness being used for entertainment.

Re: Young Adult
this film has kinda grown on me over the days since I saw it, I think I might see it again lol. And now I can spell the lead's name, which is an improvement.
