Ok, so I'm in the minority again eh? Even EthanRunt liked this, hehe??? :)
For me this was DAMN disappointing. It's the same friggin story told in a slightly different manner.
Straightforward and predictable with one of the most dire James Horner soundtracks to boot.
The pro's: Andrew Garfield was good, probably a little more faithful to the character than Tobey McGuire but he came dangerously close to appearing arrogant in some scenes. The special effects were amazing, the stunts were wonderful and I loved Stan Lee's cameo.
The cons: The lizard sucked. The one thing I absolutely hated about the 2002 version was how camp The Goblin was, with Willem Dafoe's miserable soliloquy sticking out. Well what do you know? The lizard has the very same scene! Shorter yes, but still the same. The trailer & The Untold Story gave away far too much, which turned the key set pieces into a waiting game for me. Also, as much as I loved "(500) Days of Summer", I found the romance element between Parker and Stacy highly unconvincing (even if the stars are dating in real life). Also how many times did Parker have to accidentally ruin something with his powers without provoking any kind of suspicion that he might be Spider-Man?
Overall, I think I might have enjoyed this one had I not seen the 2002 version first. Given my unrealistic expectations of this movie and my everlasting love for the character, this was never going to be the movie I wanted it to be, but a little originality would have gone a long way.
This ain't no Avengers, that's for damn sure.
Oh yeah, I can't fault the 3D but the footage they showed us at The Untold Story in the Leicester Square VUE was just SOOO much more immersive. This was OK, but I found it more distracting than anything. Either the Sky Superscreen is too large for 3D features, the projector needs to be re-calibrated or there's just too much lighting in the theatre.
