Right, Lovefilm failed me so I stayed up till 1:00 in the morning last night watching the original Tron on youtube. I have to say, I very much enjoyed it in a strange, cultish way. Can't wait for the preview tonight!

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2011" club. I saw 20, interestingly enough. My more realistic target was to see more free films than TheyCallMeMrGlass. I lost.

Saw it last Saturday at Show Film First Bloggers event.
I must admit that I was a bit disappointed as I'm not the biggest fan of 3D and the storyline was not exactly the film's forte. But if you lower your expectations it's still quite enjoyable

Absolute rubbish, the plot was almost non existent, the dialogue was embarrassing and 3D effects were pointless. If you critically analyse the effects, it's just cheap- easy computer generated effects in the dark, flourescent lighting... More likely to get a Razzie than an Oscar. A real christmas turkey at the box office for Disney hopefully. It's a surprise why Disney dropped The Voyage of the Dawn Treader to do a film like this??
Definitely boycott this film, it's not worth your time 3/10

Just seen this in a pretty full Bury and really enjoyed it.

Not usually a fan of style over substance or 3D, but something about this just clicked and I was caught up in the big, flashy ride right from the start.

The tone ranged from comedy to action to pop video, Michael Sheen was bizzare and the plot was bordering on Matrix gobbledygook at times, but it was exciting, looked fantastic, Jeff Bridges was in full on dude mode, and I loved the Daft Punk soundtrack.

I also liked The Wizard of Oz use of 3D and think because it was 3D the cutting of the action was less frenetic, so you could actually tell what was going on.

A big thumbs up from me. o/

I couldn't really disagree more with the last couple of comments, but I love the original, so meh! As always I'll just copy here what I wrote in my review summary elsewhere:

With a budget of a whopping 200+ million dollars, one might expect Tron: Legacy to favour specials effects over plot like so many big budget films tend to. In this instance I was way more impressed by the story than I was the effects. It's a rare little gem in that sense. It really does pack quite a punch, and you'd have to be one boring bastard if it doesn't leave you entertained. But above all else, perhaps most gratifying of all is... after a 28 year hiatus, it's reassuring to know that Tron really is alive and kicking and better than ever. ****

Well I wasn't going to write anything (as Beate says I never like anything!! Untrue.....) and this film was definitely not aimed at an oldie like me so it's no surprise I was underwhelmed. It seemed very Star Wars like to me and I agree that the dialogue was dreadful--"good bye kiddo", etc. Maybe if you're a games enthusiast you'd see more to it than I did.

I was at Islington Vue and a Vue employee had the nerve to ask the people next to me to move to the far side of the cinema so three latecomers could sit together in the middle! I told the him that if people arrive late they simply have to sit where seats are available and people who arrive early should be left in peace.
