I agree with Mr G: proper professional advice on any subject is well worth p*ying for, though preferably do some research first before deciding whom to consult. It's easier nowadays with so much online content, including reviews.

I consulted a nutritionist a few years back and was quite surprised by some of the things she said. It made me realise how little I actually knew about a subject on which I thought I was more knowledgeable, and it led me to do some reading and attend a few courses.

I'm going on a course re obesity and tackling weight issues with patients which I always find awkward. I recently had a 10 year old patient who weighed 14 stone and the mum wanted to know what I was going to do about her painful feet (I changed the details a bit but its the same ration for patient confidentiality), how can they not see its simple law of physics!!
I too have to make sure I don't go to mad with food as it would be difficult to advise patients if I'm stuffing my face.

But Mr G I do like a bit of bling as well!!

I know you do Diane, but I also know you do so now again to treat yourself, after a good week of healthy, right? ;)

I really like the job you doing because you have to set an example to patients and that itself is good for self motivation, dont you think?

That course sounds great o/ That 10 year old patient's parents seriously need a GP's referral to a nutritionist and child fitness adviser, though! He/she is roughly twice the weight he/she should be 8O Do you have a right to make such suggestions to them? Or is it simply just awkward for you? Hopefully the course will help you with that o/

OMG!! 14 stone at 10, my very tall 8 1/2 (already wearing age 10 clothes for height) is only 5 stone and my almost 7 year old is 3 stone!!

It really is the parents that need the nutritional advice, they are the ones b*ying the food, if they don't b*y the junk or cook it, the kid can't eat it!!
Preferred Cinema's now Paignton or Exeter!

I heard somewhere that the government were going to send familes on courses about eating properly and losing weight etc. The trouble is that you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink. I don't think some of these families know how to cook or make food from fresh. God knows I don't, well I do but I'm lazy. Being single I just don't bother.

Anyway, as long as you can b*y rubbish salt laden fat sodden food for peanuts, people will do that unfortunately. Why bother to get a chicken and cook from fresh when you can go to Chicken Cottage and b*y a bucket for a few £'s.

I think cooking and nutrition for boys and girls should be taught at school again, then maybe the next generation will break the cycle. :cross:
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks
