Re: Breaking News
Quite frankly, I have never understood why they choose such old men in the first place. They are in pensionable age, leave them be and choose someone younger! Might also get someone with more progressive attitudes that way.

Re: Breaking News
That's the thing though, isn't it? They don't want someone with a progressive attitude.

Re: Breaking News
Pope John Paul 11 was much younger but I'm sure they appointed Pope Benedict as a stop gap pope and therefore an old man was appointed as he was only to be in the job for a short time. The next pope could be much younger . . . progressive? Nah! Don't see it!Beate wrote:Quite frankly, I have never understood why they choose such old men in the first place. Re: Breaking News
The older the guy, the better the chance he will not have enough time to "mess up". I am actually pretty sure they did not like the fact that John Paul II was their top guy for so long as he did change the way the Pope behaved and was perceived.

Re: Breaking News
Three people, including the alleged shooter, are dead after gunfire erupted inside a Wilmington courthouse Monday morning.

Re: Breaking News
Apparently, he told nobody of his decision. I think it may come out that he is ill. I've never liked or trusted this Pope tbhMcG wrote:Yeah, just heard it! I am very surprised particularly as we can remember the very poor health Pope John Paul 11 was in before he died. Having said that, I do remember us saying that it was cruel to have such an ill man being "wheeled out" to perform his duties.

Re: Breaking News
Yeah, I am sure it was Twitter that pushed him over the edge. Or maybe we'll discover that he's the one personally responsible for the horse meat scandal. Or one of his underlings did not want to take his speeding points anymore and threatened to expose him. So many possibilities...
But, you know it's nice that in this financial recession he's making a job available for a younger candidate - someone who's only 80 or so.

Re: Breaking News
My friend, asked:- if he was going to be means tested for benefit as he resigned rather than retired? Were they going to make him go to 'pope club' to find another job? What were the qualifications for pope?
