No to Tennant.

Surely you know Gosling too? Recently he was in Drive, Crazy Stupid Love and Ides of March.

The writers of FF new the show was in danger when they filmed the series finale, although it hadn't been officially cancelled, so the cliffhanger was a ploy to get the network to renew it or incite the fans to petition for it (like they did with Chuck).

Dollhouse: the problem with Echo was that the story was told through her (and her imprints) so she had to be a simple character so audiences wouldn't be alienated. I agree that Dushku is not the most talented actress but guys love to drool over her, LOL. And she coped well with the physical demands of the role. The writers also couldn't make up their mind which subplots to continue and which ones to drop so not all the loose ends were tied up. Wasted potential I think, but at least it made it to a second season.

@SS: I can't remember exactly how The Event ended. I remember lots of dramatic cliffhangers and so many questions!

Can anyone recommend some more recent sci-fi shows to indulge myself in? I've only really been watching things from the 90s and before.

a current one would be Lost Girl, the only recent outstanding one I can think of.

its 'fantasy' really not scifi.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Haven't seen any of those films. Thanks for posting the pics, but he's not my type. I'm not a fan of pretty boys, unless his name is Robin Van Persie. o/

I crept downstairs at 12.20am to watch John Carpenter's original Halloween which was being shown on BBC2. It's funny because this was exactly the thing I did last year. I still enjoyed it this time round, but was more spooked a year ago because not only was it the first time I'd seen it, it was also the first time I'd sneaked downstairs and was terrified of getting caught. I suppose most horror films don't quite have the same effect the second time round; I'm relatively new to the genre myself, only having seen three legitimate horror films, but I still appreciated the music and building tension of Carpenter's classic (and jumped a few times). I actually gave it a 5 star review right after I saw it a year ago. I typed it out on my laptop about this time!

Yet a low-budget horror film made in the late 1970s that I'd already seen before still managed to scare me more than the dire and disastrous remake of Friday the 13th that I caught the second half of afterwards on Channel 4. No, I haven't seen the original, but man this was terrible. It was all blood and gore and no real terror; the dialogue was awful and I found myself yawning even as the ostentatious and poorly written sex scene unfolded. Murder would take place as swiftly as a snap of the fingers with barely any time for emotional consequence. Danielle Panabaker was nice to look at, but to be honest at 2 in the morning I really couldn't care less about the rest of the film.

I also had time to watch a couple of episodes of probably the cruelest gameshow I've ever seen called Distraction. Jimmy Carr hosts this show where contestants have to answer questions whilst being distracted, e.g. whilst getting a tattoo, being thrown around by a wrestler or standing in a phone box with a bunch of nudists. I don't know why anyone applied for this show, even if they get to the final round they have to answer some more questions or their potential "prize" gets smashed to bits!

Anyway, I'll stop boring you with my tales of late-night television and go to bed. I bet you're all asleep anyway. 1 hour extra, I suppose.

BBC documentaries!

First I watched BBC2's "Code-Breakers: Bletchley Park's Lost Heroes" on how few brilliant Brit mathematicians and engineers cracked the Nazis communication system during WW2 and built the first computer!!
Although the thematic was very interesting and still little known, I found the editing very annoying and a tad too patriotic for my taste!

Then I watched the excellent BBC1's new Attenborough doc! "Frozen planet; To the Ends of the World"; Gorgeous! The snowflakes formation shots alone are worth the watch!

edit: that's what I am talking about

Whoaaa! No artist in the world can be as creative as nature itself. I got so many nature programs recorded but havent got round to watching, this will be top of my list though. Thanks for posting that Celini.

As for the code breakers, there has been a couple of very good documentaries in the past telling this great story Bletchley Park and the enigma machine. If it werent for them, who knows what the world would have been.
