Re: What Did You Watch Last Night?
Saw 'The Future' at my local PictureHouse (The Phoenix, East Finchley, Saturday 5 November). Quirky flick starring Miranda July and Hamish - any relation to Richard? - Linklater. Started really late 21:45 as cinema was showing an opera which was much better attended. The film drew a steady stream of titters (that's laughter, silly) for about ten minutes, then silencio. Then, about an hour, that unmistakable machine gun THUMP of a walkout by someone who had just had ENOUGH. So, what's it about. I read it as the perils of getting a hairdryer and straightening your hair, because the female lead, Sophie (Miranda July) straightens her hair - dyes it, I dunno, I'm a male potato - then has an affair with an older man. Now this is not a film to be taken literally. I mean, hello creeping t-shirt, talking to the moon, a girl buried up to her neck in her garden and all that stuff. Still, as chick flicks go, I enjoyed it. Yes, no Sarah Jessica Parker, 'I don't know why she did it'. You might ask why on Nov 5, I wasn't at a firework display. Have you seen what they do to potatoes ther? Spud out.

Re: What Did You Watch Last Night?
I watched an Australian drama called The Slap, annoyingly I missed the first episode, I'll have to watch on Iplayer. Anyway its very good. A bunch of people are at a barbecue and someones annoying child gets slapped. Each episode is told by various main characters from their point of view. Its not really about the incidedent, but more of a story of Melbournites, of different generations and classes. I reckon I'll get the book.

Re: What Did You Watch Last Night?
I read the book a few months ago and it was one of the worst I've ever read making me avoid the TV-show like the plague.

#Oh dear, but we do like totally different sorts of books. If I like the rest of the episodes I'll give it a go on audiobookcanadian_turtle wrote:I read the book a few months ago and it was one of the worst I've ever read making me avoid the TV-show like the plague.

Re: What Did You Watch Last Night?
Even though we have very different taste a lot of the problems I had with the book were lack of depth and focus on what the story was supposed to revolve around. I hope the TV-show has a different focus and makes the characters more realistic and sympathetic

Re: What Did You Watch Last Night?
Went for a triple bill of films yesterday now that I have rejoined Lovefilm.
Sorcerers Apprentice: Surprisingly very funny, mostly because of Jay Baruchal (the main antangonist) and Cage is mostly always fun to watch no matter how crap the film is. Its all fantasy nonsense with subtlety thrown out of the window but I will watch the sequels if the comedy levels are maintained. I have not seen Barachal in anything else but recognised the voice from How to train your dragon. He's got excellent comic timing. 7/10
Catfish: I dont b*y this being real but it certainly was well made and serves as a good cautionary tale. It also highlights the different train of thoughts of wether to forgiving and understanding, be revengeful, or bail out and stay out of an another person's issue.
I was uneasy at the beginning as to where this film might be going as I was beginning to have fears this might go into some kind of peodaphility. Of course that was not the case. I felt sympathy for the mother who looked desperate for a fantasy escape outlet. I was very glad the main protaganist showed some sort of understanding and sympathy as she wasnt a bad lady, she was never going to do any harm but what she did was of course wrong and manipulative and highlights the problems of online friendships.
This film, Chatroom and Social Network would make a good triple bill of internet based movies. 7.5/10
Sherlock Holmes (The Guy Richy film): Finally got round to seeing this. Very enjoyable despite the fact that the awesome BBC Cumberbatch/Freeman adaption is too fresh in my mind. But this is compensated by another star turn by Downey Jr, enjoyable rapport with Law's Watson and Ritchie's trademark flair for editing. Old London was stunning to look at on Blu Ray, I wish Ritchie would just linger on those backdrops a little longer but his frenetic editing style just doesnt allow it which is a pity. Love the Irish songs and Irish elements in the music soundtrack. God knows why there's Irish music in the first place but I loved it. The rest of the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer is also a lot of fun and complements the cavalier adventures of Holmes and Watson. I look forward to watching sequel now.
