I was disappointed at how
expendable Berenice Marlohe was. She deserved more screentime :(
Seems nearly all the Bond girls in this one bit the big one.
Just seen this today and very pleased I did.

Not a bond fan and only saw it because oh was desperate to see it but I have to admit I liked it. It was visually stunning and it was great to see london portrayed in a fantastic light ( made me proud to be from london)

Though a tad long , it's still a film worth seeing.

Just watching Supersized Earth on BBC1 right now and they're on the abandoned island that appears in Skyfall.

I saw Skyfall yesterday as my last film of 2012. I wish I hadn't bothered. If this is apparently the best Bond ever, how shite are all the others? I admit not being a big Bond fan anyway and I could never take the whole espionage concept seriously but I remember there being a few decent Bonds like Sean Connery. He was slick and suave and oozed some class (martinis instead of beer). Bond films have always been mysoginist and sexist, with Bond girls mere decorations at Bond's service waiting to be killed. But we are in the 21st century now, that attitude really has to change. We get Q being a computer nerd sneerily commenting that times have changed and they don't go for exploding pens anymore - fair enough but if that's all that's changed it doesn't make me feel positive about Bond - especially as Daniel Craig is playing him like an alcoholic muscle machine who is rude to everyone around him. He is patronising to women (the best career for Miss Moneypenny is being a secretary, right? God forbid women actually have some equality in his world), and those action scenes (him on a train trading blows with another bloke) are frankly ridiculous. How he survives his fall into the sea is also never explained and why would he not come back into the fold sooner? M is probably right when she asks him "Have they run out of drink where you were?" So, for a start, Bond is deeply unlikeable. Some people have commented as how they didn't like Tom Cruise's character in Jack Reacher - I'd trade him in any day. We have Q as a spotty youth, Ralph Fiennes as another faintly unlikeable character, M has become weak and the Bond girls are neglectable, not to mention a ridiculously blond-tinted Javier Bardem as the villain. The only character I warmed to was Albert Finney!

The film is also way too long and the stupid story and action scenes just go and on an on. Also, driving up to Scotland in a nostalgic Bond car doesn't seem to have done anything in shaking the villains off the scent - it just served to make Bond and M weaker without other agent help. But surely the funniest scene was when he's on the Tube platform searching for Bardem and asking Q "Shall I get on the train? Shall I get on the train?" By the time Q decides and yells "Get on the train!" it has already closed the doors and started to depart so we get Bond somehow clinging on to the back of the train and asking a startled conductor to open the door. Cue a passenger remarking to his wife "He's keen to get home!" and me breaking down laughing saying "NOW he tells him!"

Seriously, 5/10 is all I can give this and that's being generous. I realise that Bond fans don't care at all about negative reviews and that the film has already made an incredible $1 billion at the box office. So surely it doesn't need your money as well. Steer clear and wait till it's on telly I'd say.

Managed to see it over the holidays. Quite disappointing for me too. I am not a huge Bond fan, but usually enjoy them in a bubble gum and popcorn kind of way. Aren't they meant to be stylish, polished, exotic locations, Bond saves girl and World, etc.. Well this seemed to be all the opposite. Girl dies, Bond meant to save M but doesn't, World not in danger anyway, funny looking villain and locations looking depressing. And I do feel that images like MI6 getting blown to pieces should be banned.

Overall at most 5/10 and the 5 go to the funny villain Javier Bardem, it was a pleasure watching his art.
Preferred Cinemas: Gate, Coronet, Odeon Kensington, Whiteleys, Vue Westfield, Shepherds Bush, The Lexi or any West End Cinema
