The parade does sound like a much nicer idea than the usual way they do it.
I think a lot of people didn't know about it there wasn't the normal christmas light crowds. i got to see the parade from the start point outside bluecoat then wizzed round to oposite McDonals to get front row for the actual switch on with 3 children in toe. the main crowd who got to see it was latenight shoppers geting prevented from walking to get to L1 i think. i only heard about it on radio when taking the children out so fitted in great. shame you would have missed it anyway it was a much better idea hope they do something like that next year too.

Asda have an offer on a digital photo frame £30 instead of £60 but lookin currys/ comet last year they had one that you can hook up your ipod/ mp3 and had a SD card slot that was quite cheep

I'm going to a Christmas Fancy Dress meal with hubby. We've been told to dress "festive". I'm thinking Santa and his helper / elf will be done by lots of people... Any other ideas?

Mmm, mulled wine! This is a relatively new "tradition" here, but certainly one I welcome. Had my first glass yesterday - just the thing for a wet and windy November evening!

I had my very first glass ever last year in Frankfurt, I felt warm but weird afterwards like an out of body experience -my friend informed me its called being drunk!! I don't drink ever so it had a dramatic effect on me. I'm off to Bremen to the Christmas markets etc on Saturday and I'm sooo excited :D

Have fun, Diane! We went to Strasbourg for the Xmas markets last year, and it was so cold that I had to maintain a steady intake of hot drinks. But I stuck to hot chocolate during the day - alcohol affects me rapidly, too.

Again, only of use to London members, but if you want something smaller, the Cologne Xmas Market, on the South Bank, near the RFH and London Eye, is worth a look.
