Re: The Guard
Well this film has already overtaken In Bruge as the No2 film of all time in Ireland and is about 1/2 million pounds away from the No1 spot of The Wind that shakes the barley.
Interesting to see all the mixed reviews. Clearly Glesson had all the snappy one liners and the audience was laughing non-stop (no I wasn't watching this in Ireland), but I found it strangely boring and tedious. Maybe I just don't get Irish humour 4/10

Re: The Guard
I really enjoyed the film plus the Q+A afterwards although In Bruge was much better in my opinion, however I still gave this a 7/10 score. I'm wondering could I watch this again? I'm not sure that I could, well not straight away as I think it's the type of film you can only really enjoy once or twice and that's with a year or two's gap between watching.superhero wrote:Well this film has already overtaken In Bruge as the No2 film of all time in Ireland and is about 1/2 million pounds away from the No1 spot of The Wind that shakes the barley.

Re: The Guard
I, er, I want to say I loved it.
But I simply cannot.
Gleeson does a solid job, Cheadle is ok, but the script is so annoyingly afraid to do anything. Rather than build interesting characters and a great plot, the film seems to want to deconstruct the crime genre from within, criminals who quote philosophy and are willing to sit down and talk instead of threat and brutally attack, added to a lead who is neither really likable nor interesting and some rather lame jokes makes for a dull, disappointing viewing.
I'll give it a 5/10 but that's me being kind upon it.
