First you need to confirm that its the keyboard or touchpad at fault by disconnecting them. That means someone who knows how to safely dismantle it needs to be hands on. If it then works fine with usb keyboard and mouse, then you obtain replacements.

I dont know anyone who could disconnect the touchpad, also item is still under warranty I think so maybe I should ring them first to see what they say.

Just rang the Tesco helpline and when I explained the problems they said it was a known software issue for which they have an answer but I need to be at my laptop so they can talk me through it. They say they have loads of problems like this since Christmas and even the manufacturer hadn't found a way to fix, but they had found a way 2 days ago. Will be ringing them when I get home they are right.

I am back in business so glad what he talked me through worked, though I was on the phone the best part of an hour, very impressed and would definitely recommend Tesco IT customer service Only bad thing is I need to reinstall all my stuff again, but not necessarily that bad as I am sure I had things I never used and could do without.

Sounds like you had to restore to factory settings which is usually the last resort. Hopefully they talked you through backing up your files first.

It wasnt a restore to factory settings it was a refresh which does not get rid of all your stuff, but he had to do the refresh to get rid of the bloatware which was causing the problem. Loads of my stuff like pictures and documents still ok, it was just my browsers, printer and things I had downloaded that went and they have provided me with a list of what was removed so I can add it back if needed. I never thought to ask about backing up my files, is that difficult to do?

So, just one step from a factory restore then.
Backing up. Mostly it just copying the documents folders to usb as most programs store their files there by default.

I initially unticked the "set my browser search to web search box" as I like google search, dont like the others and hate it when they make you add things you dont want to your computer, but that means you cant proceed so I got rid of the box. When this window kept coming up I looked further into it and the updated terms and that confused me even more, as I have no idea who sweetlabs are and whether this is even legit and do I need

I am on windows 8, not sure which version or how to find out.

Does anyone know what this means and should I agree to it?
