Re: London Film Festival 2011
What a strangely muted affair again at the Descendants premiere in Leicester Square tonight. Maybe it's the building works, maybe it's the weather, maybe George Clooney is over exposing himself on the film festival circuits, there was little buzz around. The film itself wasn't half bad, George Clooney had more chance to act than in his turgid performance in the Ides of March. It's a relaxing film, but this is no Centrepiece Gala type of film.

Re: London Film Festival 2011
The LFF had a good run recently managing to pick out No Country for Old Men, Slumdog Millionaire and The King's Speech in recent years, but other years it's had duds like K-Pax as a Closing Night Gala. Shame so far it's more the latter than the former at the moment. The films haven't been bad, they've been very watchable but haven't seen a surefire award winner yet.

Yes, definitely compared to the Ides of March premiere when Clooney was interesting and funny in the intro to the film. Also yesterday (but not tonight) they had a live feed into the cinema from outside, interviews etc. which peps up the atmosphere a bit. Gorgeous George also didn't speak this evening on the stage as I think he was very much not trying to steal the director's limelight.superhero wrote:What a strangely muted affair again at the Descendants premiere in Leicester Square tonight.

Re: London Film Festival 2011
Saw Sing Your Song after winning a last minute comp (and while I was already on my way I won the twitter comp too apparently). It's about the life of Harry Belafonte who was there in person both to introduce the film and answer questions afterwards. Other than my mother playing a lot of his music when I was younger I didn't know much about him so this was a very interesting history lesson of an artist / activist who has fought against injustice his whole life and experienced it as well, being a black performer in a 50s America where segregation was the norm and Senator McCarthy even accused him of being a communist. He has had a long and checkered life, and for his age (he must be over 80 now), he is keeping very well indeed. I immensely enjoyed the film, but the Q&A consisted of 3 questions only, as he answered each one at such lengths.
Post your pics, PXC!

I could have seen Rebellion (French film) as well tonight which is the film my friend went to see, as a guy tried to give his tickets away in front of the cinema and nobody wanted them! She said the cinema was half empty.

Wasn't there a live feed tonight, I thought I saw the same girl doing a live feed again? I wouldn't know anyway, they always start late these things, there's no point arriving early.
Well the only point maybe to have those free chocolates, both nights we had our chocs taken by some gluttonous stuff their face pigs!! All I can say is it will come back to haunt their waistlines! Grrr...

It seems the circle at Odeon Leicester Square had different flavour chocolate to the stalls.

Why? There was a mixture in the circle... and lots of people going for toilet breaks due to the free bar!

I was in my seat about 7.20 to 7.25ish & the curtains across the screen were closed - maybe there was a technical problem.superhero wrote:Wasn't there a live feed tonight, I thought I saw the same girl doing a live feed again?
