Watched this last night at Vue Ocean Terminal - 80+% full which surprised me.

I was trying to work out how to put my opinions into words until I read the review by 'kevinknapman' - mirrored my thoughts exactly (I wish) so no need for me to add anything! Thanks :D

I've been at one of the preview yesterday and I really loved it. Mainly I loved Denzel, one of my favorite actors, good as usual...

Funnily enough I usually check beforehand how long film will be and I noticed after the film it said on the poster "100 minutes from disaster".
If only all films had key details built into the movie strapline!

As for the film I loved it, a good old fashioned disaster movie.

Great star turns by the 3 leads and good support from the slimy exec and the dumb rail worker who started the whole ball/train rolling.
Sorry if I got it wrong, we certainly got oput on Sunday just before 1 and it was an 11 start, unless it started late and I didn't notice. We did have a trailer I guess. Hope I didn't mess up your transport.

Saw this at Totenham Ct Road yesterday. Sorry I didnt get to day hi to Prettyxcool and Marialionza, we were all rushed into the screen like a cattle! Was a little weird but then one of the staff actually came to the front of the screen and apologised for this.

The film was fun as I expected from a Tony Scott film. I pretty much dig most of his movies that I've seen since Last Boy Scout. Thing is he hasnt really evolved and has the same formula and predicatability now. The story was very very simplistic and if wasnt for the fact that just a month ago we had our own runaway train in the London Underground, I would have thought the story implausable! But these are fairly small points because the action scenes (though surprisingly few) were excellent and as Kevinknapman says, it was indeed good to see proper stuntman work, something sorely missing in this cgi laddened era. I really like the brooding attitude of Chris Pine and although not as sparking as in his Kirk role in Star Trek, he had his moments to shine. Denzel was as usual the solid backbone of the film and without him, it would be a much lesser film. There was plenty of humour and and overall kinetic energy of the movie (helped by the speeding trains) kept my adrenaline going :)

7/10 :)

I just thought everyone should have the opportunity to revisit this Guardian review link I'd posted now that quite a few of us have seen the film.

Interesting, but not surprising perhaps, that critics bend the truth to justify their 'it's a stinker' label. Poor, poor stuff Mr. Heritage.

For me personally I think this justifies the whole free-preview ethos - would I have pa*d up front to see this after reading that review? - definitely not. Would I recommend it to friends after seeing the free screening - a definite yes!

watched this at Leeds/Bradford Odeon last night ... my God it was 101% full and they put it on the smallest screen they had ..... some people arriving late had to go and get the usher to find them a seat. They had definatley overbooked this showing.

onto the movie .... i thouroughly enjoyed it even though i had to sit next to some complete strangers as me and my friend had to find seats away from each other.... Denzel was as good as ever ..... not the best movie ever .....but definatley worth aa watch!

and i hope they use a bigger screen / seating area next time!

A critic who criticizes? Shock horror! Are these the same people who called films like 44 Inch Chest & Mr Nice masterpieces? Nuff said

I saw this yesterday at a preview. Would I p*y to see it knowing what I know now? No. Would I recommend it...if it was on TV and I had nothing better to do, then yes. The film had its good moments, but it was far from brilliant. 5/10 for me!

I went to a full cambridge screening, and I must say I really enjoyed it, there were only so many ways you could shoot a train like that and they pulled it off. Love Denzel Washington, and Chris Pine was good as well, 7/10 for me.

I agree entirely. Only this weekend I was trying to explain to a friend why I go to so many screenings and try to see everything I can get a ticket for and basically I said it's because you never know what the film will be like.

I've seen a few duds, but a lot of gems as well. And it's great just sitting down in the cinema with as few preconceptions as possible and taking a film on it's merits before the ads/critics and everything else alters your view.
