going in with very low expectations, parts of this film were fun (london), parts messily overblown(ending), parts dull (middle).

I think Johnny was still fun as Sparrow, but half the gags he had were appalling. Bad script, bad plot. Think Prince of Persia. I dont know why films like this get greenlit whe they could with a little work become decent summer blockbusters. And thank heavens they kept Geoffry Rush's Barbarossa in the plot, the screen lit up whenever he was there (as it seems to any film he is in). Penelope worked too, but the mermaids were a step down from Lily Cole's mernurse in doctor who.

6/10 for Captain Jack, he is still fun when he gets good lines. But he must do better, or else he is going to destroy this fantastic character, and we still need him. Well i do lol hes the only thing i can remotely get right in Cosplay these days.

Finally caught up with this (in glorious 2D!), and it was okay, just the next POTC episode, not that much worse than the last two. The plot could have been better obviously, but it all looked good and you have to take it for what it is, just a silly pirate movie and not a Shakespearean drama.

Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow is still great fun (“If you had a sister, and a dog... I’d choose the dog!”), and I really enjoyed Geoffrey Rush and Ian McShane, they were both excellent. For them alone I’ll say 7/10.

Nice cameo from Keith Richards, and I didn’t miss Keira and Orlando at all. Stayed for the extra scene at the end of very long credits, I won’t complain if they come back with the fifth instalment.

My mom watched the second PotC the other night and said to me "You dont realise how balls the new one is until you watch the others again"

Harsh. It's a gazillion times better than At World's End.

Really? They managed to make one that was worse than this p-o-s? Good thing this one killed my desire to see any of the others.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Finally caught this tonight at the Imax very late, not much more to add, but yes plot is very light, however it was fun watching it at the BFI Imax 7/10
I saw the trailer for Cars 2, I definitely recommend watching it at the BFI Imax than even Empire, it did look better at the BFI Imax screen

Looks like it's on it's way to becoming the biggest out of all 4 of them, having just passed $1 billion at the box office 8O The extra cost of seeing it in 3D obviously helped and it no doubt means they'll definitely be a 5th one if not more. :nono:

saw it on tuesday in 3d, and I must say I really enjoyed it. much better than pt2 and pt3, and maybe even better than the 1st one... i really liked it and Penélope Cruz is really hot. I am not sure if the 3d added much to it or not, i suspect that it didn't, but the movie is good nonetheless. i would go as far as to say this is the best pirates movie thus far.
