Silly question...but
do you have to like westens to enjoy this one or does it have a wider appeal? can't make my mind up, to watch or not to watch that is the question!

If you haven't read the graphic novel which builds the story for #TRUEGRIT, you can view it here http://www.truegritmovie.com/intl/uk/novel

Back from seeing True Grit at the Paramount premises in Golden Square after winning a pair of tickets in a competition posted on the forum.

The movie is brilliant in capturing the myth of the Old West. Great characterisation and very strong performances from Bridges, Damon and especially, Steinfeld, the young girl. As kevinknapman said earlier, Bridges really inhabits Rooster Cogburn’s character: patch on one eye, cigarette drooping and guns poised, he becomes a truly iconic figure.

I also went to paramount last night and oh dear, I haven't seen a single bad review for this film and was massively disappointed.
What's all the talk about the film "not being a western" as such? It is a western period.... Maybe westerns are not my favourite genre, I felt I almost needed subtitles for this film. The highlights are the performances, whilst the 3 main protaganists are good, I didn't think it was spectacular and as per usual the cinematography with all Coen Bros films was excellent, but the story itself was a let down. 5/10

lovely film, though my Dad had odd reservations about it.... 'It looked too modern' @??!

anyway a typical old fashioned Cohen, attention to detail, people jiving non stop, gorgeous scenery.

9/10
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

That was my first thought too, maybe it's unavoidable when you're used to old westerns that just look very old compared to today's high-def pictures.
