Re: Rock of Ages
Returning from a very packed Croydon cinema.
Loved it, loved it, loved it. If my husband wasn't going away on business tomorrow I'd go again tomorrow.
My favourite film this year. I enjoyed singing a long and the characters were fab especially my favourite Tom cruise.( he keeps on getting better with age)
9/10

Re: Rock of Ages
I'm just back from my second viewing. On reflection, the film is a bit too long and the script is pretty crap. But, Tom Cruise totally owns the film

Re: Rock of Ages
I think I may have been a bit harsh in my initial review. I had a splitting headache when I saw the film last night, and considering it was so loud, I may have been slightly too critical.
I did enjoy it on second viewing but the flaws are even more noticeable: most of the cast don't have particularly good voices, the film is way too long and there is barely any plot. The film is saved by Tom Cruise who steals the show.
I'm going to raise my score to 7/10.
WTF was Russell Brand doing with his accent? He went from posh to Scottish to northern.

Re: Rock of Ages
I just uploaded the cast introduction at last night's premiere in London onto YouTube. Yup, I still think Adam Shankman's interview questions for the cast are hilarious!

I thought it was supposed to be a brummy accent, he was joking about it to the reporters outside before the film.funthing29 wrote:I think I may have been a bit harsh in my initial review. Then he needs to go to Birmingham because he did not sound like a Brummy!

Just on the way home from the O2, thank god for their 7pm previews which mean I might be able to make the odd midweek screening.
I loved every cheesy minute of this! 9/10!

Re: Rock of Ages
Edinburgh Vue was packed and it was twice as big as the usual screening room.
The leads were really weak and the plot was non-existent.
I was devastated that they ruined so many of my favourite 80s songs. Heavy Metal?? More like soft rock! Where was Drew's haircut from? Certainly not anywhere near 1987 in any shape or form.
As my OH said "Where's Anvil when you need them"?
Russel Brand veered from Birmingham to London and back to the west midlands. I think he was trying to channel his best Noddy Holder!?! However he was probably the best thing in it actually trying to act.
Cruise was hamming it up big time and all credit to him he looked like he enjoyed himself.
However, a big disappointment to me overall.
5/10

Re: Rock of Ages
That was meant to be a Brummie accent? My ears settled on very bad Machester, with huge Irish, Essex, Scottish, non-accent accents.
