I recently read all the books by Jim Butcher, the series about Harry Dresden are a little bit on the pulpy side but enjoyable nonetheless if you're looking for a slightly more mature wizard - Sky showed a TV series based on them called "The Dresden Files". His Codex Alera series is slightly more sci-fi but still with magic involved and was also a good read.
Also if you want a detective story with some magic realism thrown in you can't fault Ben Aaronovitch's "Rivers of London" which I read incredibly quickly once I finally reached it in my to read pile.
I think that Rivers of London sounds like a most interesting read. Something a bit different and a good enough transition. When I finish a book, I either want to read the next one in the series or read a book of a completely different genre. I see if Rivers of London is on Kindle or I might actually read another YA fiction.
When I said a supernatural story, I just mean a plain good old ghost story, no wizards, magic, vampires and stuff. I was in the mood for that but it doesn't matter as long as the book is not humongous, I realise now I don't have the patience to read very long books these days. Probably down to life seeming like a rush...!
