I thought this was brilliant, fantastic directing, incredible script and superb acting. Meryl Streep's performance is absolutely sensational, she completely immerses herself in the role and is mesmerising, in both the younger and older versions.

I love how the flashbacks were interwoven with the story and the use of the authentic news footage was a nice addition. This is subtle storytelling at its best, no time is spent hammering on with the backstory nor is there unnecessary exposition yet the audience never gets lots in the politics or personal drama. I also liked the objectivity of the film, it is not critical of Thatcher neither does it overly sympathise with her plight.

An Oscar contender for sure. 9.5/10.

I feel like I should read up on her now since I am not familiar with the Thatcher era. Its a wonderful film, enjoyed it very much. I especially adored the relationship she had with her husband, seems like she relied on him more than I assumed. 9/10

Darn it funthing, you got in first and used the very word I'd decided on - Meryl Streep was mesmerising, you couldn't take your eyes off her. Olivia Colman was excellent, unrecognisable as Carol but with her unmistakeable voice. I liked the young Margaret too. A lot of excellent make-up and lookie likeys so you could recognise all the politicians (if you're old enough). Very poignant in parts and good use of newsreel.

Nice to see all the usual FMUK suspects, meet weirdfilms33 for the first time and special mention for MrG who sat as still as a mannequin once he realised there was a short (bossy) person behind him.

Went deep underground into screen 2 of the Empire (personally I wanted screen 1) and sat down in the same row as TheyCallMeMrGlass and Valda. Jeancomp sat behind and I waved to Mariolionza and Beate. A_person was down in front as was canadian_turtle (though I've no idea which seat she was sitting in). So many FMUKkers my head was about to explode.

I thought the film was quite good. I was easily the youngest person though and thus probably had the least exposure to Thatcher prior to seeing the film. As such I felt that the film put too much emphasis on the lady as an older woman and needed a lot more background on her political career. But my goodness me, Meryl Streep was by far the best thing in this film. She was astonishing and awards will undoubtedly be winging their way to her eventually. Is there anything she can't do? A superb performance, although the structure of the film is a little flawed. 7/10

Arrived 5 past 6pm, which caused MariaLionza to say that she thought we would have been earlier, and a_person to express suprise that we were here already. The inferior screen 2 filled up rapidly with FMUKers and other people (some people from the radio station were sitting behind us I believe).

It started 10 minutes late because several people insisted on making a speech, the first of which no one could understand as no microphone was provided. We were told we would be getting a DVD with scenes from the movie on the way out which we should feel free to "share in our community".

Oh my God, this was so boring. It didn't catch my interest once. Maggie said at the beginning that she wanted her life to matter and not "die washing up a tea cup", so when towards the end she was seen washing up a tea cup, I had high hopes, but alas...

Yes, Meryl Streep is great as always, she gets Thatcher's look, talk and mannerisms down to a tee, but that's about it. There was no story there, just disjointed flashes of her life, back and forth in time, and we were supposed to know exactly who all the other politicians were. So many things were left out, and it became the story of an old woman who still sees her dead husband after all these years. We never really got what they saw in each other though, and although I appreciate that it was a long life, decades were simply left out. I really do not know what this film is supposed to achieve.
