Thats how I understood the story too. I did find this one hardgoing and it took a long while until it all started to make sense. I couldnt see where it was going with such a big difference in the timeframes, but stuck with it and in the end it did. I also felt it was a bit too long.Beate wrote:Ok, spoiler for those who didn't understand it:
According to the medium, the ex-wife of Antoine was the reincarnation of Vanessa Paradis, the mother of the Down Syndrome boy. Laurent was reincarnated as her husband (creepy) and Vero, the Down syndrome girl, as his new girlfriend Rose. That's why she had the disturbing flashbacks, and why she had to let go of him so he could finally be with his true love, something she had so brutally ended in her earlier life. That's what I understood. Not that it made much sense in itself. As her female friend said "Horseshit".
Re: Café de Flore
Watched this movie last night and although I can see it would not be for everyone, especially as it is subtitled. - I loved it - I will watch it again. The music is amazing in it.
Preston1990 - you wrote such a good review exactly how I saw the movie ! :)

I also really liked this. I concur about the brilliant choice of music and clever and absorbing style of filming. I loved the little touches the director dropped in, and what happens after the end credits, gives the whole piece another dimension.
And it was great to see a film in total silence, with that annoying element that screeners attract, obviously being put off by the fact it was a foreign language film that acquired some level of intellect and the ability to read. 8/10.

Did they show Vanessa Paradis's crappy teeth?

It's a gap between her front teeth, that's all. Luckily we don't all feel the need to have Hollywood smiles.

No, it's not just a gap. They're plain nasty lookin'.Beate wrote:It's a gap between her front teeth, that's all. Luckily we don't all feel the need to have Hollywood smiles.
Don't get me wrong - she's stunning otherwise, but those teeth look like the result of extremely poor dental hygiene.
They're moldy yellow, for God's sake. Is she a chain-smoker?

Re: Café de Flore
Saw this on Monday evening myself and it resonated deeply with me. For someone who does not believe in reincarnation and the paranormal, it definitely evoked some strong emotions and the sountrack was outstanding, overall a spectacular movie. 10 out of 10 for me.

Re: Café de Flore
Ooh it is very mixed isn't it! Saw this on Monday in Covent Garden, I saw the trailer but didn't read anything about it, wasn't expecting it to be quite so confusing. I liked the film, use of music and soundtrack was very good, some spot on simple parts. But also some bits that to me tried a little but too hard and didn't quite work as well. A bit more show and less tell would have been better I think, though maybe then we wouldn't have figured out the plot quite so easily. Worth watching I think but a bit long and the odd tenuous moment - 7/10 from me.

Re: Café de Flore
Per usual, I'm quite behind with my reviews, so hey! Here's my take on this one: http://londonfilmfanatiq.com/2012/05/02/cafe-de-flore/
Lots to appreciate, but some glaring imperfections. I really did not like the final shot. It left me with a worse perception of the film as a whole until I actually began to write about it.

102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.
