We went down on the lift quite early, some folks then tried to get us to go back up into the bar to wait but we just ignored them and stayed put. :shifty:

My silly embargo is up today, so here's my review on this: http://londonfilmfanatiq.com/2012/08/13 ... his-waltz/

Williams is amazingly awesome; everything else, less so.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

I caught this yesterday afternoon. I fell asleep frequently during it, but every time I woke up, the scenes I had snored through were still going. No pace, no plot, no characters. Just a lot of quirk and painfully shoe-horned moments of dialogue. Average performances in an awful film.

Whilst this wasn't that popular here (seems to be another which the critics loved but the p*ying public didn't), I decided to give it a go as I still have loads of Picture House vouchers and although it wasn't top of my list, the timing meant that it fitted in neatly before a matinee. I did think it was too long and self-indulgent and that the ending was a mess; also that there was a different film altogether hidden in there (about the lapsing alcoholic friend), which I'd have preferred to see, but I'm still glad I satisfied my curiosity and could see what people were talking about. 7/10 from me.

I hadn't felt any particular interest in seeing this film, but I had a voucher that expired today and I didn't want to see anything else that was showing.
I'm glad that I went and I emerged feeling that I had really enjoyed the experience, even though I didn't think much of the story and didn't much like the characters, so how does that work?
I agree with everyone here that Michelle Williams gave a very good performance, although I found her character to be infantile and at times maddening. But at the end of the film I found myself sympathising with someone who obviously didn't really know how to be happy.
There were loads of scenes where the editing could have been a lot tighter (not many films would show us the hosts saying goodbye to every member of the departing family for example), but I was obviously in a bit of a dreamy mood this afternoon as I felt it was all part of the journey. Shame the ending was such a non-event though.
Overall I found it thought-provoking, and I think this film will stay with me for a while. Think I'll now go and enjoy a chicken dinner with my other half, and appreciate both a little bit more than I would have otherwise!
8/10
