Re: Total Recall (2012)
Saw this at West India Quay Cineworld. Had to use a voucher before it expired.
Well what can I say. As it is a remake there will always be comparisons. Personally I prefer the Paul Verhoven version as it had humor and classic Arnie one liners.
The new version is just pure action with some dialogue lifted straight from the original. Visually it it is quite stunning and the special effects are great but the film is without the humor of the original and so it was a bit soulless. Also it took itself quite seriously but as a straight forward action film it was fine. Also with all the action present, shooting and killing happening it was a bloodless film. I suppose this is to get it past the censors and get a 12A rating. Just a shame the character Richter was not in this film. I would have loved to heard the line "See you at the party Richter" one more time.
Now I just need total recall to remember this film. As action packed as it was. It was all too forgettable. Shall I go to Rekall now to get a memory implant of this film...oh no I've seen it already.

Re: Total Recall (2012)
saw this a few days ago with a friend and after reading all the reviews and seeing the trailer i had really high hopes for this movie. having not seen the older version and so not having anything to compare it to, i thought that the visual was excellent with a few funny moments.
but i guess i was a expecting a bit more from this film, although it was fairly good

Re: Total Recall (2012)
Totally Unrecallable.
Actually it wasnt too bad, even squeezing in some injokes to the first movie. Great to look at too, liked the way they used shots of London that were CGI enhanced in patches to make it look like 100 years from now (well more like 300 years, but who counts in these scifi movies?).
Shame Dredd doesnt get this budget, the background in Total Recall looked very much a Megacity One in the making (or Britcit, I should say) with nods to Bladerunner's future Los Angeles too. Best see in IMAX if you still can, and also dont think about it, it doesnt make much sense!
Farrell is actually ok as Quaid, although they exaggerate his special abilities a lot. Beckinsale makes a suprisingly good villain, her occasional 'girly running' aside (though I prefer Jess Biel, not just cos shes got proper curves shes just cooler). Bill Nighy was wasted.
Am tempted to see it again just for that scenery.

Must try to catch the original on Sky again so that I can compare the two. I love the visual effects in this version though. The car chases were very well orchestrated.

Agreed. A bit of humour would have been nice.tsoiboy wrote: Visually it it is quite stunning and the special effects are great but the film is without the humor of the original and so it was a bit soulless.

Preferred the original, should definately have kept the humour. My favourite part when Arnie is disguised as a woman rehashed beyond recognition.

Re: Total Recall (2012)
Went to see this last night with my free tickets from the Magners cider offer. Loved the original film, this one not as much. That said it's still a decent action film, with excellent special effects. Think it's better to watch it without thinking of the original too much. Did like Kate Beckinsale though, she really kicked ass lol.

Re: Total Recall (2012)
why do flying cars need special roads built for them? they fly on air, not on roads.
that kind of sums up the movie - very sexy, very stupid. dont think about it.
The first 45 minutes chase sequences are the best parts.
