Last week I waited for something like 100 minutes to get a 5 minutes interview with Karl Urban. So damn skippy I'm gonna post a link here: http://londonfilmfanatiq.com/2012/09/07 ... interview/
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

That's because its not, I was dredding it would be though...no actually I wasnt, I just wanted to throw in that imaginative pun. :P

Its not a great film either, it didn't exhilarate me but I enjoyed it (which I finally got round to seeing last night btw). I know there are comaprisons to Raid but Raid, I am sure is also a nod to Bruce Lee's uncompleted Game of Death. I am a actually a little disappointed that this turned out to be that type of film, I was hoping for a bit more visual dystopian splendour of Mega City throughout the movie but we dont get that.

Karl Urban is great but not all the time because he is constantly alternating between a Clint Eastwood Impression right down to the curl of his lips and his normal vocal which made for a stark contrast. I knew exactly when an Eastwood Impression is coming up when I see those lips begin to curl! But its fun and he delivers his lines well. Pity they were mostly mundane, nothing memorable. Still, Karl makes it punchy to make up for that and was great to hear the obligatory line "I am the Law". However, if you want to hear the greatest delivery of those words, go rent or b*y "Last Train to Gunhill" and then wonder to yourselves what the world would be like if the great Kirk Douglas in his prime had played Drudge Dredd. Ever since I was a kid, that line was immortal to me from that old unsung great western.

Sorry back to the movie. What I loved about it was it felt like a throwback to the 80s right down to its ultra violence style, in fact it felt very much like Verhoven's Robocop. Even the female partner psychic rookie partner also gave me a sense of familiarity of that 80s classic. I like that element here though particularly with her psychic prowess. But this film was incomplete, it had absolutely zero exposition, zero character development and zero chemistry in the Dredd/Rookie releationsip. In fact, the only existent chemistry was a twisted one between the female rookie and the prisoner/rapist.

So it was fun, had some style (the slo-mo drug effect was cool, if a bit repetitive) but not the big movie I thought this was going to be. I'd give it a 7/10.

By the way, I LOVE Stallone's Judge Dredd. Thought I throw that in there right at the last because I know most of you (if not all) would be too disgusted to read any further if I said that at the beginning. So ha, too late

No chance of a sequel then, it's tanked in the States and probably no Dredd reboot for a long while....

yeah that's a shame! It did so well here on opening week; what is wrong with the American cousins? Is it just because they love only American comics? (that's a serious question)
