MM and my friend loved this but I didn't care for it. Did nothing at all for me and the only thing good about it was the music.

Absolutely loved this. Great characters, great story. And even though some of the topics were a bit heavy, the film felt like a warm blanket to me as I loved the friendship the main characters had and I found them all very likeable. Especially Patrick was great. Did anyone spot the girl from Electrick Children in a teensy role?

Oh and when have I last seen or listened to a mixed tape? Ah, the memories. Also, a film that features The Rocky Horror Picture Show just can't be bad. I LOVE the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I started rocking away next to a_person, LOL.

I cancelled my tickets for WIQ because MariaLionza very kindly gave me tickets to Shaftesbury Avenue, which is not a better cinema, but had a better location for me tonight. Made a big effort to get there 'early', to find out that they had let people through already and the screen was already quite full. Still, it seemed much better organised than it has been before, so thumbs up for Cineworld.

I really enjoyed this. I didn't watch the trailer or anything and when it started, I initially thought it was going to be one of 'those' films. But it was far more compelling than that, with the theme of mental illness and abuse key to the plot.

The girl from Electrick Children? Was she the one with the curly hair in the canteen who didn't acknowledge Charlie? I recognised her from somewhere, but couldn't place her.

PS I think I might have seen prettyxcool in the back row on the way out - closest I've come to an FMUK spotting yet! Will try to actually catch you next time!

You've pretty much said it all Beate except it was 'Come On Eileen' that got me rocking. I remember going to the Rocky Horror all dressed up Just brought back so many memories, i've still got mixed tapes

Only thing i would add was that i was absolutely shocked and bawling at the end. [spoiler]I'd got an inkling when she said its our secret but just didn't want to believe that she'd done that to a tiny little boy, it was so sick[/spoiler]

Brilliant watch, drew me right in and hurrah for Emma Watson who proved that there's more to her than Hermine

I enjoyed this more than I expected, given that it must have been aimed at a far younger audience - though there was a huge age range at Crawley and seemingly as many older as younger people present. As others have said, this was a deeper film than it might at first have seemed, though it did cram in almost too many issues and all the characters appeared to lead unrealistically charmed lives in the material sense: cars, smart houses, pocket money, etc. And had it not been for the frequent appearance of cassette tapes, I couldn't have said it was set in any particular era.

Despite watching umpteen films set in US high schools I still have only a sketchy idea of how their system works and feel I could do with more background knowledge about the meanings of the various years(e.g. junior, senior etc). For instance, Charlie was evidently a year or two below some of his friends yet mixed with them as equals, which surely wouldn't be the case in the UK?

Since it has been questioned a few times in previous posts, the film is meant to take place in 1991.

I didn't care for this. It was just too aimless and when I thought it had finished, it just kept going on and on. I was quite impressed by Logan Lerman here since I last saw him in the poor Three Musketeers but his performance and a nice soundrack cannot save the film. The film tried to be serious yet cutesy and the final effort missed the mark on both counts, IMO. 6/10
