To me it was gory. Personally I don't like seeing all that blood, people being shot in the head etc. I prefer when it is implied rather than seen. I guess I like being in a 12A world. But to me that is fine.

Preference of cinemas:- 1. Glasgow Renfield Street Cineworld, 2. Glasgow Showcase, 3. Braehead Odeon, 4. Vue Fort, 5 Glasgow Springfield Quay, 5. any other cinema in Glasgow area including Hamilton
Also Falkirk, Dunfermline and Stirling but these are rarely used for free previews.

Not sure what the Die Hard comparisons are for, except perhaps that this is what Die Hard would be like in the hands of the worst director and worst storywriter in the world. This movie is so bad, its funny to watch. I cackled throughout most of the movie at the terrible plotting.

You can only justify watching this if -
1. you are drunk and/or treat it as a complete satire to be laughed at all the way through (none of which humour is intended by the movie btw).
2. you are happy to watch a very stupid movie so that you can enjoy the few loud, decent action sequences.
3. you are stupid.

But films like this, by and large, should not be made. You cant justify spending millions on something so stupid. And the really painful thing is, its actually a really good idea for a movie!
 I don't know which one I am, raj101 . . . I don't drink so that knocks out option 1.
So, I could be happy or stupid . . . or maybe even both 'cause I loved this film! :p
I saw this in Glasgow with Yinster + OH and deb1 +OH. Personally, I had a great night . . . pure escapism and by the end I wanted an American flag to wave! :giggle: The one thing you have to say about the Americans, they love their country and their president even if they use a Paisley Buddie (Gerald Butler) to fight the battle single-handed! The story is nothing new and do agree that it would have been nice to see more of Morgan Freeman's character. It's the kind of film where you just watch  . . . don't think  . . . just watch  ! Yay!
Marks: a whopping 9/10 though I do find it so interesting how varied the views are!
I would happily watch this all again so :cross: for Sky tickets! :D

It was flawed admittedly and if the US really do have some of those protocols etc in place, then Gawd help them if they are attacked but the film was a lot of fun, had very good performances, decent one liners to relieve the tension and the action didn't always rely on CGI.

Just because you didn't like it, doesn't give you the right to malign those of us that did.
I actually enjoyed it, in that it made me laugh uncontrollably, so its a misnomer to say I didn't enjoy it. Don't feel offended, you surely fit into a similar category as me. And the aerial action sequences stand out, pity they are few and far between.

But regarding the film's stupidity - you have got to be kidding me. The White House got taken over with a flying gunboat and some tourists with guns. It had a young guy as the President who grunts like a private. The response of the whole USA was to send in two planes and two choppers and a few SEALS, and that's all! Hilarious! The Koreans need three codes, and yet take an hour and half to get them when instant torture would have yielded them in five minutes. It has one American grunt becoming Batman/The Flash/GI Joe, and a whole troop of Koreans being stupid as shit throughout. Yet our GI Joe can barely move, hes so out of shape. And I've hardly scratched the surface with these points. The worst one was that the CERBERUS codes were needed to deactivate missiles as a safety device, and then suddenly in the last scene that's rewritten to make missiles activate (??) - I really hope I got that wrong because if not its a glaringly terrible goof.

It can be enjoyed for what it is, explosions and grunting and laughable plotting. But saying its not a stupid movie is taking a gulf of liberties.

its a suprisingly anti-American - the villains were portrayed as cruel freedom fighters, and Butler was just as happy killing people as the Koreans were. The spirit of John McClane is now officially dead, it seems.
if they use a Paisley Buddie (Gerald Butler) to fight the battle single-handed!
well that explains it.

Oh my God, how can you all like this film? It was total and utter garbage. Patriotic dross of the worst sort, with Gerard Butler, who I can't stand, saving the day singlehandedly just to prove that he is over not being able to save the First Lady 18 months before. The characters were barely sketched and I didn't feel for any of them, and a film that so tragically underuses Morgan Freeman should be ashamed of itself. This was a killing fest with a body count so high it could probably fill all the rooms in the White House (or Whitehouse as one news channel stubbornly spelled it) twice over. I kept thinking something interesting, original might happen, but no - just more shooting, stabbing and blowing up of buildings. And Gerard Butler talking out of the side of his mouth as usual saying heroic things like "I don't work for you, asshole", when one military commander tries to get him to stand down.

Sorry, but even the latest Die Hard film was more fun than this. So, yeah, I'm with raj101 on that one. I thought I was choosing the better film last night (over GI Joe) but now I am not so sure.

so is White House Down going to be the same film but with Channing Tatum speaking out the side of his mouth? (and a more obvious title)

I didn't understand why he was so blade happy and loved stabbing people in the head personally.
Was even more surprised to see this is a 15 O_o
I do agree with raj though, it is very stupid, for one, the initial plane would never have got that far in land after 9/11, they would have confronted it at the border and shot it down when there was no response.
There is no way that all the security codes inside the white house would have been the same after GB's departure from the S.S, that would just be silly.
