I've just read the wikipedia page about Kuklinski too and he was so much worse than shown in the film, including beating up his wife, which he didn't do in the film so it really disturbs me that they didn't portray him more truthfully. You really ought not to be able to feel any sympathy with a character like that.
I haven't seen the movie yet but you need to give them some creative license, if it was going to be spot on accurate it may as well be a documentary about him. Its sounds like they tried to be unique by playing the sympathy for the bad guy card. I personally would probably enjoy it more if it was dark, psychotic, and disturbing (as I said the wiki page sounded more interesting than the movie trailer) but I guess they didn't want to go down that road which is fair enough... disturbing movies don't appeal to larger audiences.

I agree, it seems disturbingly bizarre to try and vaguely sanitise Kuklinski's life.

Just got back from the screening @ North Finchley and I have to say that I was pretty impressed.
Didn't think that they made Kuklinski a particularly sympathetic character, as far as I was concerned he was vacant & relatively light on personality most of the time so although I didn't hate him I wasn't exactly rooting for him either (I actually thought that 'Mr Freezy' was far more likable and charismatic in comparison).
Thought everyone involved put in some damn decent performances (even David Schwimmer who I didn't really expect to see in this sort of movie) and time wise it didn't outstay it's welcome.
Overall it's a film that well worth catching and gets a comfortable 8/10 from me...

I really enjoyed this & like Razorback, did not think that any effort was made to make him sympathetic. It is just the fact that despite being a psycho-killer for hire, he was also a committed family man & by all accounts a loving father & husband.Go figure.
My only criticism would be the footage of him in jail. I would have thought that it would have been better if they had tried to copy the style of the real life jail interviews, given that so many have seen him / them on youtube.
overall 8/10

Back from Glasgow Showcase.
Well it was alright. But the kinda of film I have in the background. Nothing really happens and when it did, you could contain it in 30 minutes. Surprised they used the same girls from the ages of about 10ish (working it from the timeline) to 16. Ah well it was good to spot the stars in this film. 5/10

Preference of cinemas:- 1. Glasgow Renfield Street Cineworld, 2. Glasgow Showcase, 3. Braehead Odeon, 4. Vue Fort, 5 Glasgow Springfield Quay, 5. any other cinema in Glasgow area including Hamilton
Also Falkirk, Dunfermline and Stirling but these are rarely used for free previews.

Fair point about the sanitisation of his story, his Wikipedia page really makes him sound even more of a ruthless nasty piece of work.
Just noticed quite a lot of the HBO documentary about him seems to be on YouTube.
