and yet no IMAX showing.:( If you are going to build a twilight/harry potter scale S/F franchise then IMAX ought to be on the cards. SHame, immersive stuff like this thrives on a huge screen to draw you into its world. It made all the difference with Potter seeing Hogwarts in full blown sizea as if you were walking into it (and kinda compensated for how shite some of the films were if I'm being honest).

I wonder if these cinworld vouchers work for the bigger cineworld screens, Super 02 and crawley?

Not as bad as I was expecting but neither is it something I would rush to watch again. The story was silly but coherent with some decent action sequences and special effects. Despite the cringeworthy attempts at comedy and the bad acting - Lily Collins has a doe-eyed look throughout and Jamie Campbell Bower just looks broody but nil else - it kept me engaged for 2 hours. 6.5/10.

I'm thinking there was a "eat, sleep and breathe cheddar" order at the writers' table for them to come up with this cheesefest. But what can I say, I like cheese and so in the end I did enjoy myself regardless of the weak lines, the not so great acting and the fact that at times I was just urging them to move one and do it fast.

Where's this cheese everyone is mentioning? Are you referring to the direct book quotes?

I watched it earlier today with my friends and I thought it was quite decent. However, I think I just expected more from it since I found the books to be good reads.
I'll give it a generous 8/10 simply because I've adored Rob Sheehan since his misfit days and he makes anything better :)

Went to see this earlier this evening and was shocked by just how mediocre & unimaginative it actually was 8O .

There were so many different elements that just seemed ripped off from numerous other movies (e.g Stargate, Harry Potter, Twilight & Star Wars) that I'm struggling to think of anything that was truly original about this flick.

To be fair, it did actually start off okay but then went rapidly down hill at about the half way mark & I have to assume that this was shot entirely in sequence as I can't come up with any other explanation for why every single actor's performance got notably worse as things progressed.

So overall (and I'm being pretty generous here) I can't give this flick anything more than a 5/10...

If you are upset that you're mum wont let you go to the latest local Cosplay convention, this could be for you. Its one huge Cosplutopia.

Expecting an unintentional self parody a la this years Beautiful Creatures or some of the Potters/Twishites, this is a full league above them. Though it is long and the plot elements are all too familiar, they have been blended enough to offer a movie that feels fresher than the rest of its tweentysomething genre brethen. Topped with great effects, and a slice of bloody action, its not for young kids - more aimed at newborn adults who still yearn to read teen-style fiction (no not me). Some knowledge of the books would indeed aid viewing, but it didn't bother me, I just fill in the blanks the way I like 'em lol. Its just a shame that tv shows like Lost Girl have become so high quality that okay movies like this are becoming marginalised.

Not enough shots of the City of Bones, probably due to budget restrictions. A shame it uses the old Muggle you-cant-see-it plothole coverjob but at least that's done in a refreshingly humorous way that bland old JK was incapable of - 'You can see him now?' 'Oh now I cant see him. Hes gone!'. Not as much bad acting as you'd expect (Collins is a fiesty lead).
