Re: Ender's Game
Yeah I think its more like to follow the shadow series as opposed to the Enders Saga, Speaker of the Dead isnt even the same set of characters!
Shadowhunters: Looking better in black than the widows of our enemies since 1234.
I am, after all, what you made me.

Re: Ender's Game
So how many books are there so far? Do we think there could be a film franchise here? At least there are other sagas since Ender won't stay wee for long and if there were loads he would out grow them. Just like Harry Pot and Danny Rad - they grow up and get big.

Re: Ender's Game
Ok here we go, get ready!
The Ender Saga IS
Ender's Game
Speaker of the Dead
Xenocide
Children of the Mind
The Shadow Saga(what they're more likely to follow) is:
Ender's Shadow(parallel to Ender's Game from Beans POV)
Shadow of the Hegemon
Shadow Puppets
Shadow of the Giant
The prequel to Speaker of the Dead is A War of Gifts: An Ender Story
Another parallel series is:
Ender in Exile
THEN, a series documenting the first Formic war(the first invasion)
Earth Unaware
Earth Afire
Earth Awakens (The last two are yet to come!)
Shadows Alive

Re: Ender's Game
Saw this today with my last Livingsocial Dominion voucher.
Very comfy sofa and footstool, ideal!
I wasn't sure what to expect, but I did quite enjoy the film. I know it was aimed at teens but they could have set the scene a wee bit more which would have helped the film overall?
7/10 from me.

Re: Ender's Game
I saw this Friday before my last shift at work, and I have to say, this is BY FAR, THE best book to film adaptation I have ever seen.
Despite the critical views in the book(which I am glad they didnt include, such as the complicated politics), pretty much everything was spot on, even down to the mind game, and the ending scene.
I was blown away by it, Ender was played perfectly, I loved Bean and Petra.
The only 4 nitpicks I have are:
1. When Ender hacks the system to insult Bernard, he actually signs it as from 'God', I think this would have made for a good joke!
2. There was only 1 girl in the entirety of battle school, which made Petra all the more amazingly talented. But as this contributed towards the authors 'sexist' view, Im guessing they let it slide.
3. At the end, Ender doesnt actually speak to an actual formic queen, the queen inside the egg connects with him. Though, Im not complaining, the effect was awesome.
4. Valentine goes with Ender to explore and find a new home as she has the compassion Ender lacks.
But in hindsight, those are tiny things!
The effects were amazing, all actors did extremely well with their role, and im really struggling to fault it in any way!
9/10!

Re: Ender's Game
I've gotta give this a 9/10.
The ending of the final test gave me shivers and overall I thought it was a stunning, well crafted film. Just a couple of small details I would've loved for them to have included
Such as how in the book Ender is told during the argument with Graff at the end that he killed the boy back in Earth during their fight rather than just injured him.
Also if they had used the slang "Buggers" for the formics occasionally to show the disconnection and how the characters look down on them rather than fear them
But it was mostly just odd bits that I would've liked tweaked rather than any sort of overhaul, so very happy with it!

Re: Ender's Game
I'm not a big fan of the author or his views on how people love and live their lives so won't be watching this or reading the books anytime soon. It does look good but just can't p*y to make that man richer and more outspoken than he already is.

I have absolutely no respect for the author, but I chose not to take it out on Asa Butterfield, who gave an incredible performance, or the other producers, who I think tried to take out some of the worst bits as far as I can tell from seeing the thoughts of those who read the books. I thought the film was excellent.moggers wrote:I'm not a big fan of the author or his views on how people love and live their lives so won't be watching this or reading the books anytime soon. If I decide to read the books I probably will try to p*y very little or nothing, for the reason that I don't want to see the author get pa*d much. For a film its less black and white though, and I greatly respect that.

Same here, I read the books before I found out about his personal views and I'm glad I was able to read the books untainted with that shadow and second guessing a lot of the content, but I do wish I hadn't pa*d for the books nowcaitlinmorton wrote:I have absolutely no respect for the author, but I chose not to take it out on Asa Butterfield, who gave an incredible performance, or the other producers, who I think tried to take out some of the worst bits as far as I can tell from seeing the thoughts of those who read the books.
