Re: A Royal Night Out
I thought it was great fun but was disappointed that hardly any of it actually happened!
Here's a timeline of that night from the documentary:

Re: A Royal Night Out
this was alright, though nothing to do with the Windsors whatsoever. You cop on early that its all fake when "Jack" turns up, the working class soldier who willingly becomes the posh girls credit card for the evening and speaks the truth out loud about the royals on VE night. yeah right, like one of the Windsors is going to even stop for a moment to talk to someone like Jack. Come onnnn! - they were too busy chewing off their vast secret supplies of venison, mutton and wine to notice that the rest of Birtain were celebrating coming off years of rationing.
Rather, its largely more like watching two cluelessly posh uni freshers who have eventually dared to leave their campus bedrooms for a night out in town (on VE night, ha). To be fair, yes, its really more about lending us, the audience, a glimpse of VE night.
A blend of Blackadder style humour and incredulous lies rips into the royal entourage. But its well told lies, and, as it is the want of the Windsors, its their well told lies that count.
some unintentionally funny lines " I cant walk to Chelsea". mhuaha, really?? how old are you, eleven?
Petered off towards the end, but the only thing that was really missing to top off the movie was a well needed post credits scene to reveal all -

Re: A Royal Night Out
A fun film with the principal characters well portrayed by the cast. However there was an element of farce with Lilibeth running around central London trying to find her sister. Margaret was depicted as a somewhat comedic character. Was this when she developed a taste for some later excesses?

Liked the film, its a fun comedy romp and although its obvious
that the 'Royal' involvement is very tongue in cheek it is a good
depiction of the sheer joy and ,for some.the pathos of that night.
Emjoy the film for what it is,don't go expecting a documentary

Re: A Royal Night Out
Saw this in a completely full Wimbledon on Sunday. Wimbledon Odeon isn’t always a pleasant experience on Sunday mornings as you have to run the gauntlet through all the CRC paraphernalia, high-decibel eardrum-puncturing propaganda, shrieking masses, baby buggies and nauseatingly happy born-agains! Once inside the auditorium, we could finally concentrate on the film. Here we watched the Princesses Elizabeth & Margaret mingle with the hoi-polloi on VE day. Although the film was “..inspired by true events “, it would appear that most of it was apocryphal – especially as it descended into farce as one princess chased the other via buses, Trafalgar Square, seedy Soho knocking shops. I had to choose between this film and Phoenix showing at the Picturehouse Clapham, but chose this as the journey is much easier – nor sure I made the right choice! I didn’t really expect a lot from this film – and wasn’t at all surprised that it didn’t deliver. A mildly amusing light comedy – no more, no less. 4/10

Re: A Royal Night Out
Did people really think this would be a factual based film? Other than the "fact" that Lizbeth and Margaret really did go out that night, how would we learn anything else? I can hardly see The Queen sitting down with Alex Zane and giving an interview about what she and her sister did that night!
I thought it was an imaginative piece of enjoyable hokum. Leave your brain at home and let it entertain.
Although the two women seated behind me obviously thought it needed debating throughout. God help them if they ever saw a film that actually needed concentration and thinking about. They'd never cope!

Re: A Royal Night Out
Did Jack Reynor not make a decent paycheck from Transformers? As plenty of people are said, they may as well have made up two imaginary princesses and described their adventures, this movie has so little basis in reality. I was a bit disappointed (I've seen the poor little rich girl storyline before, and done better), but if you want a thoughtless romantic comedy with sweet actors, this is a good escapist movie.
