Re: Minions
thing about overkill was she was half-baked as a concept, with a poorly written script for her - annoyingly reduced to a "Gahhh" in place of a verbal reply half the time. And more annoyingly, it was the same recorded "Gahhh" repeated again and again and again. Just lazy film making.
still fun enough for kids and Londiniophiles, just missing the extra layers we have come to expect from the Shreks, Toy Storys and, yup Despicable Mes.
Despicable Meh? not really, but not quite worthy of the Despicable Me franchise.

Re: Minions
I'm collecting the Minion toys from McDonalds for my grandsons as they are not allowed to go there. It looks as 2 new figures are released on Wednesdays so guess what lunch will be on Wednesday. . . a Happy Meal! I can then p*y 99p extra for another toy unless I can persuade friends to join me! My 2 wee boys will absolutely love them and the wee one has a birthday on Wednesday but I wont see him for a few weeks so time to get more Minion items!

Re: Minions
Oh yes, and I saw this on Friday, using up my last voucher (don't be sad, I can get plenty more through my credit card points!).
It wasn't as laugh-out-loud funny as I hoped but I still sat there with a big goofy grin on my face the whole way through. It was a lovely day-time screening with only six other people in the audience, only one of them a child. The three main protagonists were instantly distinguishable - banana-shaped Kevin as leader of the expedition, one-eyed Stuart the hilariously bad musician and cute round naive Bob, who turned out to be the biggest asset, both getting the red jewel from Scarlett Overkill in a quest for his teddy bear, and in an amusing mix-up of Arthurian legends, pulling the sword out of the stone, making him king.
Yes they talked gibberish but their take on Esperanto ("Para tu!") was always understandable. They also had their priorities right with their aspiration to "power, respect - and BA-NA-NA!" I loved the pissed off Elizabeth II drinking with the locals at the pub, telling bad jokes ("Why does a queen go to the dentist? To get her teeth crowned!")
A lot of things didn't make sense. A villain wants to be a queen? There's a landline in the Minion cave? What was Gru doing in England and how would they all have lived with him when he was only a child? Plus, soft-centred Gru never was the world's most convincing villain. But then, the Minions never were little criminals either. All they ever wanted was a boss they could feel safe with. And they got it. Awww. I hope they take better care of him than they did of their other bosses, LOL.
