I didn't go in thinking this would be a superhero film but I'll admit to not realising there would be butchery scenes. They quite sickened me.

In fact I found quite a lot of this film disturbing for several reasons; the hunting and butchery, the supermarket scene (stealing isn't cool and neither is planning how it could be done better next time but possibly explains why his money lasted). Gifting children of any age such lethal knives shocked me and when the young boy became distressed and violent at the news of his mother scared me. There were also times I didn't like the way the father spoke to the children. Was the swearing at and in front of young children really necessary?

Wouldn't it have been more appropriate for the ashes to have been dispersed somewhere in a nature kind of area (woods, river etc) rather than potentially blocking a public toilet.

I was also surprised that Bo had a passport but on thinking about it, his mother did so much to try and prepare him for the wider world in helping him apply for college, that she probably obtained it for him.

All this nitpicking might make it seem like I didn't enjoy it but I did. The scene on the bus when the policeman was looking around, tickled me immensely. Especially given an earlier line about "Christians" :bwl:

The two older girls had fabulous voices and I loved the two younger children too.

They were remarkably well educated especially in comparison to their cousins but as well know, more is needed to be a well adjusted human being.

An entertaining and thought-provoking film.
