Drive
Re: Drive
Saw this at Crawley yesterday and despite leaving home no earlier than usual, turned out to be the first so OH and I were able to bag a t-shirt each.
NB: so far as I recall, this was my/our first film-related freebie EVER; even when I attended a Grolsch screening in London, I was offered no beer (which I would, anyway, have offered to the first taker). So whilst I'm sorry others missed out (and in particular to hear about the dire experience at WIQ), I do feel it's nice for non-Londoners to get a look-in at very long last.
I had wondered whether to go or not (no such worries for OH), given the reports of earlier previewers re violence and it was certainly too gruesome for me in several places but I just looked away - albeit not always fast enough!
Whilst agreeing with every point made by raj101, I was still impressed in a way, so 8/10 from me.

Wow, that's just shocking from WIQ. Do make sure you complain! The staff were probably hoping to keep the t-shirts for themselves! I got the grey one, it has a nice logo but they could have looked so much better in dark blue or black, like the poster! I guess white/grey is cheaper..a_person wrote: Complete f**k up yet again at West India Quays. I am still so f**king pissed off.
I enjoyed seeing this second time around, but still feel they could have toned down the gruesome bits, I don't like having to look away. Otherwise it is such a striking film, it stays with you for a long time after leaving the cinema. I loved those quiet scenes where one look says much more than ten lines of dialogue. And the soundtrack is excellent, a lot of it composed by Cliff Martinez, one time Red Hot Chili Peppers and Captain Beefheart drummer!
One or two little things occurred to me..
[spoiler]Gosling's character isn't named in the film, other than "the driver" or "kid"... or did I miss it?
When he rams Nino's car off the edge of the cliff, how are his headlights still intact!? It made for a great night scene, him standing there looking down on the beach, but still...
And then when he's stabbed in the stomach, the fake blood just looks like HP sauce!

Erm, I sat in your seat yesterday so if you were there I would have sat somewhere else and you would have probably pushed the people off the stairs!Beate wrote:LOL, I am glad I wasn’t at WIQ yesterday, I am not sure I would have coped well with the incompetence, the noisy latecomers and a_person’s level of anger!

@ Syd_Brist - could have done with your whip at that precise moment. Wish you were there too!

Actually that did occur to me that they wanted the t-shirts for themselves and only 15 appeared so where did the other 5 go?thedude wrote: The staff were probably hoping to keep the t-shirts for themselves! [spoiler]I agree the blood didn't look quite red, more brown. That mask he wore on the beach was quite horrible, mcm was quite freaked out which was rather funny. Lol. His car was very well built or so it appeared as very little damage was done throughout (or so it seemedthedude wrote: One or two little things occurred to me..

Re: Drive
I actually thought the gruesome parts were going to be much more graphic, after reading the reviews here. Surprisingly, I didn't have to look away once during the entire film. I must say, regularly watching Game of Thrones desensitised me a lot.thedude wrote: I enjoyed seeing this second time around, but still feel they could have toned down the gruesome bits, I don't like having to look away.

Re: Drive
You sat in MY seat? How dare you? Even when I am not there, this is still my seat! It's got my name on it! What do you mean it hasn't? It should have! And are you saying I have anger management issues? What makes you think that?a_person wrote:Erm, I sat in your seat yesterday so if you were there I would have sat somewhere else and you would have probably pushed the people off the stairs!Beate wrote:LOL, I am glad I wasn’t at WIQ yesterday, I am not sure I would have coped well with the incompetence, the noisy latecomers and a_person’s level of anger! Also, your level of anger combined with mine would have perhaps erupted like a volcano.... Will you complain though? If enough people don't complain, my complaint isn't going to get anywhere. Has hd82 given her review yet? I hope her and mcm complain.

I am not sure I should complain, I mean I wasn't even there and personally patronised by an usher. I would have if they hadn't given you any t-shirts though.

Re: Drive
Might be worth complaining to Total Film also, as this is totally out of order and they would like to know about such behaviour from cinema staff.a_person wrote:Actually that did occur to me that they wanted the t-shirts for themselves and only 15 appeared so where did the other 5 go?thedude wrote: The staff were probably hoping to keep the t-shirts for themselves! Re: Drive
Thanks for that steve9872, I think I might do that.
@Beate, would I ever say that about you?
Would I?
And hey, you complained about the "Despicable Me" fiasco when we had problems at the o2, Greenwich and you weren't there either! So I can't see how this should make a difference!
@Beate, would I ever say that about you?

I think they should! a_person gave a good account of what happened last night at WIQ. The cheek the latecomers had was unbelievable.MGellatly wrote:It seems that cinemas have become very lax about entry. The tickets state quite clearly that there will be no admittance once the film starts. Maybe they need to go back to enforcing it!cinefila1 wrote:So many late comers at WIQ tonight it became a bit annoying. They had to switch the lights on after the film had started so they could find the empty seats!
