Yep, the Haymarket was packed, with a few seats left in the front. Nice touch having the director introduce it.

The film was much slower than the first and less action, but I still enjoyed it and it explained a lot more of lisbeth's background. The suspense worked in our row too, everyone jumped at the same time! Now can't wait to see the third in the series to tie up all the loose ends! 8/10

Lovely chatting to tilly and fiance, milkchocmonkey and hunky bf, and hdaniel82, and lovely to see ejwrank and friend.

Felt sorry for the few people I saw holding b*ght tickets in front of me, they were actually let in first but behind tilly!! Wished I had spares to give them.

Ugh.
I thought the complete opposite! I thought everything they did wrong in the first one, they got right in the second. The first one missed out so much detail, and this second one was much more true to the book. As harrowing as it was, I really enjoyed it!

8/10
"Thank you for being my friend" is true to the book?

There was just nothing done to build any of the new characters introduced here. Zalachenko was "corrupt"... okay, that says a lot. Blomkvist knows what Teleborian did to Salander? The audience doesn't beyond him being the one who committed her. Niedermann is totally one dimensional. Mia gets one small scene?

I could understand some of this due to time constraints if it actually was building towards something, but to me this movie fails where the book excells and that's at building towards a climax. As the reader you really want to see everyone responsible for making Salander the tormented soul (which is made far too simplistic in this film) get their comeuppance. All the explanations in the film just felt rushed and don't draw you in emotionally or even from a pure syorytelling perspective. If the first movie hadn't been so good, would you care about this character? The film is lacking how stacked the deck is against her and it lacks her deep-rooted distrust of anyone. In my opinion, this film does the character of Lisbeth Salader a grave disservice. I robs her of her nuances. Would it have killed them to mention her p*ying for a private physiotherapist for Palmgren?

The greater problem is that the final book is the climax. It's where the shit comes crashing down on those who deserve it. There is no real suspense as the odds become so overwhelmingly in favour of the protagonists. It's more about satisfying your emotional investment in Salander and eagerly anticipating the bad guys getting what they've got coming.

All this film leaves you wanting is to find out what happened to the brother. What a cheap tactic. His capture at the end of the book sets up a pivotal plot point for his pursuit in the finale.

I can't fault the film for what is the greatest of contrivances of the three books, that of what happens to Salander and Zalachenko at the end. Totally unbelievable.

I really thought the first film was a great adaptation, but I simply cannot understand the decisions they made with this one. And seriously, poor casting for Zalachenko. Plus he looks ridiculous and does not do the character justice at all.

I preferred this one to the first -- not so brutal but full of suspense and violence all the same. Glad to be able to congratulate prettyxcool and her OH on her son's achievements. Actually I was there alone and would have gladly given away a ticket (which were courtesy of milkchocmonkey) but couldn't find anyone who needed one in the queue.

A nice surprise that the director turned up at the beginning.

Big thank you to a_person for giving me tickets. Really appreciate it and glad I got to go to this screening. Wasn't expecting the director to introduce the film so that was a nice surprise. Think I preferred the first film (which I thought was absolutely excellent) but this was still good. I agree with most of what has already been said about the suspense and it was good to get more insight into Lisbeth's background. I wanted to see more of brave Paolo, totally underused in my opinion :D

Didn't grip me as much as the first film but still good. 7.5/10.

I haven't read the books but will make a point of reading them now.

Watched this at Edinburgh Vue on Sunday 22 Aug.
Thoroughly enjoyed it - a great interpretation of the book and can't wait for the final installment.

My OH and I saw this yesterday at Haymarket too. Really liked the introduction with the film director. Haven't seen the first film (nor have I read any of the books). Thought the film was okay, a bit irrealistic in parts...a high speed chance in Sweden, really?!? not going to happen ;) 7/10

out of sheer curiosity i sat late last night and watched the first 1 far superior in my opinion... but will still eagerly await the third instalment :D too many unanswered questions left in the second 1 for me. I agree it was a bit too unrealistic in parts especialy the bit where Lisbeth is buried in the ground and manages to claw her way out after what appears to be a full night underground LOL but i did still thoroughly enjoy the film ;) just a shame i gotta wait hope it ain't too long LOL

Hmmm now you've laid it out like that, I can't help but agree with a lot of the points you have made. But I still think I preferred this film!

Saw this last night in a busy haymarket cinema. Was nice to finally meet Tilly-congratulations again and always a pleasure to see u prettyxcool and a quick hello to hdaniel ;o)

Ok the movie, I have to say that I didn’t like it as much as the first movie. I thought the first movie was fab and gripping but i felt unsatisfied after this movie. It left too many questions unanswered and didn’t delve into the storylines enough for me and I also found it a bit unrealistic in parts
I have to agree with Soonforgotten's summary of the movie compared to the first one. Still a good movie so 7/10
