I'm not upset I lost by two points....not at all *cough* damn you Hugo *cough*

But seriously, well done Canadian Turtle and Superhero!

I feel really sorry for Viola Davis, I love Meryl Streep but c'mon The Iron Lady was absolute trash. They might as well have given her an Oscar for Mamma Mia! if they were so desperate to reward her. Also why did Hugo get so many technical awards?! surely Rise of The Planet of the Apes deserved Best Visual Effects!

Ah well, till next year. I'm calling it now, Django Unchained gets noms for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Leo Di Caprio) and Best Screenplay in 2013. DDL gets a Best Actor nom for Lincoln. Not sold on The Great Gatsby yet, seems full of miscasting and it's in 3D (yikes!)

I agree bonnybon, but you have to separate the acting from the film itself (not easy I suppose). I went for Viola btw

I am kind of annoyed that Viola Davis didn't win. Meryl Streep's acting talent notwithstanding, but some people say she wasn't "leading actress" enough for that category. She was nominated though so that should not have stood in her way, and if it did, it's not her own fault. Judi Dench won an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love (supporting actress) while having been in the movie for all of 8 minutes. Viola Davis was a central character and onscreen very much. If this is the reason she didn't win, then it doesn't seem very fair.

Leading or not leading aside (though I fully believe Davis she shouldn't have been nominated in the leading actress category to begin with!), I thought Streep's performance was better too. I know The Iron Lady wasn't everyone's cup of tea and not everyone thought it was a very good movie (though I personally thought it was excellent), that aside, Streep was fantastic in it.

Those that haven't seen it, make sure you catch Tyrannosaur tomorrow, Olivia Colman would have been my winner in both Oscars and Bafta's.

Yes I suppose, but if that was true Meryl would win for every film she's in :p ! I thought she should have won a couple years ago for Julie and Julia when she was beaten by Sandra Bullock  I remember reading after that ceremony that Meryl would win the next time she's nominated because she was now "due" and it's true, she has. Makes me think, it's just a popularity contest mixed with politics rather than acting, unless you really hit out of the park á la Christoph Waltz, Jean Dujardin, Mo'nique.
