Re: Weight Watchers
Ahahaha, nice one from MrT, but I think he ought to perfect it before foisting it on you! A favourite of mine is Pilates (or yoga) but it's not for everyone. Did your physio(or whoever told you to rest) not recommend anything? I have to say if it were me, I'd be grasping that excuse with both hands and hogging the sofa, so good for you not doing that (mind you I'm partly using my pregnancy for that, so...)!
Sorry, Mr G, I agree with having a look before you go and being prepared, but I don't think if it were me I'd be printing that and taking it with me to a restaurant (unless perhaps I were eating out every single day or something). Like I say, I do agree that it's best to have a look before though and be pre prepared!
Anyway, now that baby-anakin is public knowledge, I ought to enlighten interested readers about my battles with food at the moment. I don't eat many meats - just chicken mostly (though I'll eat mince turkey to make a spag bol, etc) but yikes, I'm right off chicken. Not that big a deal unless you know that I only eat chicken because I just couldn't give it up, I love love love it and could eat it three times a day... until recently. I am still eating some to keep my protein up but am like a small child and have to disguise it. I have been eating sausages as well (only Bratwurst, cos they are amazing) but I think it's time to get mum in to cook me up some lentils...
No cravings as yet - unless you count junk food, which I am able to curb for the most part...

Re: Weight Watchers
You OH is cruel, lol. Ms Thrifty, you do need to make sure you do not provoke the healing of your stress fracture in your foot, bare up with the lack of walking activities for now, its best for the long term keep remembering that. BUT you can still do exercises, both lower and upper body type workouts with just your own body weight or with stretch bands or dumbbells. The lower body exercises can be done sitting down or lying down on a mat and avoids any impact on your stress heal. However, check with your therapist, your intended exercises. Let your therapist know how active you are and they could give you a more keep fit rehabilitation program.Ms Thrifty wrote:I am stuck for an exercise/activity whilst supposedly resting (grr, the very word makes me spit!) the stress fracture in my foot.
I have been out and about with it anyway as it took me 4 months to find out what it was and that it needed rest, so I know I can walk on it, though it's painful and won't help it heal. However, I can't stand doing nothing yet can't think of any other options. I have already had to give up swimming, gym and running on medical advice and though cycling used to be OK occasionally, it really screwed my back up when I did some last month and I'm still having treatment for that. Zumba would be something but it would hardly be resting my foot, so have I really drawn a blank or can anyone else suggest something, please?
NB: OH claims to have invented a new activity called "Extreme Ironing" but whatever that means, I don't like the sound of it!
A wii console could have really come in to great use here if you had one as you can stand up or sit down and work up a sweat, cardio style while having fun with a fitness game. Complemented with a couple of Dynabands or equivalent, or dumbbells, doing exercises from the youtube videos such as Sparkpeople.
Upper body workouts from sitting position:

And here are some seated lower body ones: (check with your therapist/doc approval with these ones)
Seated total body: (again check with your therapist/doc approval with these ones)

Seated abs workout:
Most important though is to maintain a healthy diet and lower your calorie consumption to compensate for the lower cardio output. Remember to stay the same weight, your calories in/calories out ratio musnt change. So eat just little less than usual if you feel your physical activities are much less.
I do know how you feel, though Ms Thrifty, I had a serious heel injury building up to my first half marathon and I was incredibly frustrated but I realised being patient for about 8 weeks with rehabilitation was the wisest thing to do and was still able to run the great north run in the end :)
There is always a way around every obstacle, guys, always remember that :)

Re: Weight Watchers
Mr G, thank you SO much for going to so much trouble to come up with exercises I can still do - I'm really grateful! (Doesn't look as though I'm going to get away with lounging around for several weeks after all, but then, I'm not cut out for life as an odalisque.)
I've dug out my dynabands and to my shame they've languished unused for so long that they've perished, but they're easily replaced and I could dig out my fitness ball and pump that up; plus my wobble board should be safe enough to use - see what you've started, Mr G - I just needed your inspiration.
I haven't a wii console but it would probably take me longer to master the controls than to recover from the injury. I'll bear it in mind, though, just in case...
(Anakin: I hope you haven't told him about that big consolatory bag of Maltesers I've just scoffed? Then I won't split on you about your food fetishes.)

Re: Weight Watchers
MsT, I think you grassed yourself up. I hope you didn't do what OH did and eat most of the bag, only to leave TWO in the bag. What is the point??!
More stuff that's... challenging... about eating when preggers: cut down on caffeine (max of 2 cups of tea, but that means no chocolate!), no runny eggs (no eggs florentine!), no goats cheese... all this isn't so bad if you're not already limited in what you eat when you go out. England is not as veggie friendly in places as it makes out. Pubs are the worst. Even if they are veggie friendly, that only works if you eat goat's cheese (so no good if pregnant). Veggies eat more than just goat's cheese, you know! Grrrrr!!!!!
Maybe this should be in the food thread, soz.

Re: Weight Watchers
Sorry you are not so good MsThrifty hopefully you'll be back to your walking before long.
Thanks for all the advice on what to eat at the Indian restaurant
pleased to say I have lost another 1lb this week. Keep hoping that I can manage a 2lb lose but at least this lb means I have now lost a total of half a stone and my stomach is definately flatter.
Only another stone to go.
Thanks for all the advice on what to eat at the Indian restaurant

Really well done Biggins - you clearly know what you're doing!!! Even if it's not 2lbs, it probably mean it's going to stay off, which is fab! Also, great that you can see a difference, as well as feel it! My stomach is definitely the opposite of flatter, but no outward sign of the actual bubs yet. Must be eating more than I realise...

Re: Weight Watchers
Well you have a really good excuse for not having a flat stomach and you are eating for two now. It takes time to get a flat stomach again after childbirth but as my "baby girl" is 42 years old I don't think I can use that excuse any more. LOL!!anakin wrote:Really well done Biggins - you clearly know what you're doing!!! Even if it's not 2lbs, it probably mean it's going to stay off, which is fab!
