Alice in Wonderland
Re: Alice in Wonderland
I took the kids to see this in Crawley last night - torrential rain & confusion about start time must have put some folk off as there were a fair number of seats left empty. Even the cinema manager commented that they were expecting quite a few more! We were given tickets with our 3D glasses that were used for a raffle in which they gave away 2 goodie bags of Alice merchandise & cinema tickets just before the film started. Can't tell you exactly what was in them as we weren't lucky enough to win (or close enough to those that did to get a sneaky peek!) There were also trays of free cakes laid on in the bar area before the film (which pleased my kids!) I thought they would struggle with the green/red carpet bit but they quite enjoyed spotting people they recognised from Harry Potter etc. I enjoyed the film but have to agree that I found the 3D effects strange at times & did not add anything so I will be interested to see it again in 2D. I think the fact that the kids found the rugby ball moment in the pre-film advert the most impressive 3D bit sums it up! However we did all love the film - but we are big Burton/Depp fans. I'm glad someone else spotted Crispin Glover/McFly - my kids didn't know what I was talking about!

Really enjoyed the film. Some funny bits, great story and great characters. Didn't expect to see so many famous people doing voices. The 3D was O.K, but not really used as much as it could have been. Matt Lucas was great as 'the fat boys'. I'd give it a 8/10.

Re: Alice in Wonderland
As a Tim Burton fan I was expecting great things from this long anticipicated movie and it does not dissapoint! Went to Middlesborough preview last night. Very true to original story with a mix in of the famous Lewis Caroll ' Jabberwockie' poem... Best characters: Tweedle Dum and Dee (Matt Lucas). Lurved the Vivien Westwood designed costumes. Not as dark - I thought - as originally expected and 3D okay but not fantastic. Overall an entertaining evening - children and adults will enjoy this film. 7/10

Re: Alice in Wonderland
I saw the film in Middlesbrough on Thursday night, sitting with anjirose and jmbblue. I was considering taking a book or a newspaper with me, as the tickets stated 6.30 for a 7.50 screening. I was very surprised by the live link to Leicester Square to see it all happening. The time certainly flew by!
I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It will have wide appeal - there were some very young children in our audience - good family entertainment, and nowhere as dark as I had expected it to be.
8/10 from me

Re: Alice in Wonderland
The reason the 3D wasn't as good as it could have been or as good as Avatar is because it was originally meant to be a 2D film, then it was converted into 3D after it had been filmed, most likely after Disney realised how much more money they could make out of it.

Preferred cinemas:
Central London and North London as far north as the Hampstead Everyman including Picturehouse Hackney/Notting Hill Gate - but not Wood Green and North Finchley as they are just a bit too far.
