Re: Inception
Saw this last night, kind of free cause the bf pa*d
really adrenaline fuelled, mind bending stuff, loved the film even tho I found it quite confusing at times and so fast paced that by the time I'd worked out what was going on in one bit another three things had happened. But it certainly grips you from the word go and makes you feel like you're in the middle of the action. Still not sure if I 'understood' it or not but I certainly liked it.

Re: Inception
I pre booked pa*d to watch this on Friday night at Odeon Leicester sq, which followed straight after watching the preview showing of Knight and Day at the Empire (yep, I was one of those in the humungous queue, you guys saw after the Knight and Day screening, lol). It definitely is the most brain taxing blockbuster I've seen. But while the storyline is brilliantly complex, the direction is somewhat soul less, and lacking emotional depth. The visuals were not as daring as I hoped it would be given the scope of the storyline structure. The first Matrix still holds that accolade. Dark Knight was a more satisfying experience because it had heavyweight actors of considerable gravitas to complement Nolan's brilliance in storytelling. Inception depended on Di Caprio to carry our emotional attachment but for me, he didnt quite pull it off, great actor though he is.
BUT I did enjoy this film, it is an exhilerating, captivating roller coaster ride in the realms of true geeky SF heaven and the Nolan brothers are a magnificent filmaking team. I just wanted a little more emotional attachment injected into this and that's what makes this fall short of being a masterpiece. However, I will watch this again because this certainly is a film that could well grow on me and I may find there was more to it than I thought. It could prove to be the other way round though...
8.5/10

Re: Inception
Hi Guys,
Sorry for the delay in posting but I'm covering holidays at work so working full-time and the rest!!!
I managed to get to the Cameo in Edinburgh just in time last Wednesday through a torrential rain storm to find there was still a queue outside at 6.30. This was because they were doing bag searches using Group 4 security (seemed a bit odd given the film was released to the general public the next day!), but anyway as I was on my own I managed to grab a decent seat.
The cinema filled up and was actually full. One girl had gone to the loo and they managed to give away herseat too, rather than evict the poor bloke they gave him a deck chair to sit on at the back which was nice.
I wasn;t sure if I'd like this from the trailers and I'm ntt a huge Leo fan but I really did enjoy it.
I thought the English actor wo played the one who could chage his apperance in a dream was very good (Sorry name phase!!) as was Leo and Marion Cottilard was very believable too.
I thought I'd got it but the end made me wonder.........
9/10 from me.

Re: Inception
Went to see the 9.40am showing on sunday morning (only time we could get a babysitter!), was so surprised that we weren't the only people in the cinema. Inception is mind blowing stuff. No chance you'll be able to have a quick nap and still be able to understand what's going on! The cast was excellent, plot complicated but worth sticking with but overall a huge spectacle to behold. Don't wait for the dvd, you must see this on a big screen.
A word of warning - don't expect all your plot questions to be answered, we are still debating what really happened at the end!

Re: Inception decrypted
I don't think that's a good thing. I for one was certain that it was a dream from the start. Half of Mal's lines are unsubtle statements to this end. Her reliability can be brought into question, and many people I've talked to strongly believe that it wasn't a dream, but either way it's poor storytelling from Nolan: he's so obsessed with having an ambiguous ending that half the film directly contradicts the other.midian wrote:then i realised there are many competing interpretations of what actually happened. i really thought i 'got it' when i left the cinema. so the more time passes it seems the less sure i am. bravo, mr nolan!

Re: Inception decrypted
I disagree. I don't even think he was going for an ambiguous ending. To me it's very clear and there is so little to support the dream theory. The evidence is overwhelming that it is as presented.AYBG wrote:I don't think that's a good thing. I for one was certain that it was a dream from the start. Re: Inception
i think Nolan was just having the last laugh -he was saying, 'NOW STOP taking it so serously and go home!'
but thats perhaps just my intepretation. a final play on the fact that often, good films are like dreams when we remember them.
Spoiler removed.

Re: Inception
I reckon Inception belongs to the class of films which need to be watched twice in order to get!*
Any film that starts with a flash forward, has not just dream sequences but dream within a dream within a dream and flashbacks in the dream within a dream sequences has got to be a tad confusing. I just sat back and enjoyed the visuals with dropped jaw. How I wished this film was in 3D. I'll post a proper review when I've seen it again in a proper cinema - sorry but Clapham Picturehouse just doesn't cut the mustard.
*My list is Donnie Darko, Mulholland Drive and of course Memento.

His 'stage' name is Tom Hardy. His character name in Inception is Eames (aka The Forger).alythonian wrote: I thought the English actor wo played the one who could chage his apperance in a dream was very good (Sorry name phase!!)
I agree that he is a very good actor. More details and his work are listed here:

I'm glad it wasn't in 3D! There's enough to keep your brain busy as it is...dovetail wrote: How I wished this film was in 3D.
Having seen it twice now, i'm convinced it will be a serious contender come the Oscars next year.
