Re: The Diary Room
All the tube users have jammed packed my regular bus, so I had to wait for the next one!
Also, I don’t think tube users understand the concept of using the bus, i.e. there are plenty of seats on top! I think they like to feel they are still on the tube crammed in on the lower deck! But it prevents other users getting on. I could see about 5 empty seats on top when my bus whizzed by my stop and left me standing at the bus stop. Then on the bus I was on, there were at least 10 empty seats! And I can see frustration on the waiting passengers as they couldn't get on the bus at the next stops.
When I struggled to get through, to get off, as I passed each one of them, I told them that there were plenty of seats on top!

Re: The Diary Room
Gosh I am stuffed. First OH and I plus friend had free dinner at All Bar One Bishopsgate. The food was nice, you were allowed 2 courses plus drinks for free, but the venue was noisy and the air con on too high, the waitresses were disorganised and bungled up orders - we had to correct the drinks order twice, and I got my main before my friend got her started - in fact she never got it so we all had dessert instead. But hey it was free!
Then, as if that wasn't enough, OH and I waltzed on to Bavarian Beerhouse Tower Hill, also a new opening, where they had a starters platter followed by a Bavarian pub quiz (I was only one answer out!), followed by more food! When the music got too loud at around 9.15pm, we rolled home, after numerous drinks and a digestive schnaps. OH is now lying comatose on the sofa, LOL.

Re: The Diary Room
Sounds like you had a fab evening Beate.
I just managed to get to the Benares in Mayfair, stuck in non-moving traffic for half an hour, so decided to walk the rest! So many people had dropped out because of the tube strike, that they were really pleased to see us and piled us with loads of champagne and delicious canapes in the form of lamb, chicken, potato balls, mini spring rolls etc. I couldn't face the trek across town by bus to the Bavarian to join Beate, so stayed and had some more canapes and champagne, and chatted to a friend who I met on jury service 8 years ago, and had lost touch for awhile!
This is the third time I have missed the Bavarian (twice at Moorgate and this one), but I am sure there will be another time!

You know me, I always like the sound of free food and drink :)
Sounds as if you were treated well too!

Re: The Diary Room
I live at Roding Valley on the Central line, but I have to wait for a shuttle to Woodford to come into London, the through shuttle only comes every 20 mins so if it gets cancelled I have to wait another 20 mins or go round the bottom of the loop which it takes an extra half an hour. Its 11 miles from home to work so too far to walktilly wrote:Where do you live? My work would make me walk to work!!
