Re: Weight Watchers

#2861 Post by ClareBarr » Fri Jul 27, 2012 11:04 am

Hi everyone, I've just been reading the past few pages of this thread - well done to everyone for your weight loss, hard work & discipline with your diets!

Sorry I've not posted on here for a while. With this bout of hot weather, I've found that I have NO pain at all (with my health related problems) so have been making the most of it by having a clear out of my flat, walking lots, trying to get a sun tan, swimming and days out with my boyfriend! I don't know how I've packed it all in, really.

I've enjoyed the first week of the school holidays - I have lesson planning to do for my new music classes in September which I'm gonna do next week (I hate leaving it all to the last minute!).

I've given up coca cola and chocolate - the latter has always been my downfall. Its been 4 days now. When I was posting here recently about all the swimming I was doing, my diet was still not great, & I wasn't losing ANY weight - & I decided to do something about it. I wanted to post on here to get back in touch with everyone :)

I've been trying to swim every day. Monday I did 30 lengths, Tues 50 ;) Weds 30, Thurs 30 & today I'm having a break!

Some advice please.....I'm giving up certain foods, eating less, and snacking on fruit & other healthy options....but quite often feel hungry! What are some healthy options to eat that can make u feel satisfied?!

Thanks guys & have a great day :) x

Well done Clarebear! o/

You'll probably find you'll lose quite a lot just from ditching the cola alone!
I remember watching those weight loss programs, you know the ones with derogatory names like fat families etc.
But one girl had a litre of coca cola a day and it amounted to like 40g of sugar(or possibly higher) a day! D:

Very well done for having the willpower! o/
Ive failed in my attempt to ditch ice cream this week, but I do blame the weather for that!!
For lunch one day I just had ice cream cause everything else would have been too heavy on the stomach!
BUT I have recently b*ght a YooMoo Naked Fro-Yo, which is only 134 kcal per 100g, and cause its fro-yo you feel fuller for longer :)

Glad you've been feeling better, ClareBarr. I'm so impressed with how much you can swim!! There are lots of nuts, fruit, salad that you can eat in abundance that are really good for you and very filling.

No just driven - its the adrenaline that you athletes have ........
8O "you athletes" 8O Hahahaha! Very droll, Diane!! :D
biggins wrote:How is Chris Hoy this evening!! Bet your thighs will be as good as Chris's soon Preston with all that cycling. You are becoming very competative. Do you think your friend will go out cycling with you ever again?
Steady on! Neither of us are any good you know - which is why we make perfect training buddies! It's just that he's more overweight, and even less fit, than me (at the moment!), that's all. Of course we'll be out cycling again next week, but he'll be doing his damnest to out-ride me next time and he's probably even putting in extra miles of practice as we speak. He already has donned lycra and one of those whizzy crash hat affairs!! 8O ;)

Anyhow, Biggins - I like to think of myself more of a Wiggins than a Hoy

Do you think I should shave my legs, to gain an advantage? ..... or would that be just taking things too seriously ;)

Hmmm.....I wonder!! From a psychological point of view it could have some merit! Hmmm...... ;)

After posting my menu yesterday - I kind of strayed off the straight and narrow badly yesterday evening. My proposed "small salad" turned into a veritable series of fridge and cupboard raiding episodes of increasing outrageousness where I scoffed unbelievable amounts of foodstuff which even included several bags of my old nemesis "Walkers Crisps" and something which was new to me called a "Marlborough Bun" :nono:

Today is another day though!..... as we so often say.....but it hasn't started too well as you'll see.....

Today's Menu:

1) The other Marlborough Bun 8O :nono: , Black coffee.

2) Small salad :shifty: No I really mean it today, I must get a grip.

3) Curried vegetables - don't worry - it's a new batch that I haven't made yet!

4) Earl Grey Tea with lemon (Syd and Diane's favourite) and Toast with sliced vine tomato, basil leaves and a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Does that qualify it to be called a sort of Bruschetta, Diane?

Have fun and try to be good everyone! Enjoy this fantastic weather - get the afternoon off work and get out there amongst it.

Eat sensibly - Take in some exercise, step outside of your comfort zone and push yourself a bit!!
Pain is temporary - Quitting lasts forever!!! :D

Edited to say -

I've just spotted your post ClareBarr - Welcome back! We've all been worried about you! :D

It sounds like you have been doing great though with all that exercise. And it's good that you have decided to overhaul and look critically at your diet. o/

One of the things you can do to ensure that you feel fuller without increasing your calorie inrtake is to drink a lot of water before you have a meal. It's great for the metabolism and helps you to feel fuller more quickly when you do eat. You could also think about making some lovely salads with crunchy vegetables and eating things like fresh fish.

Well done everyone - what fantastic weigh ins again this week!!!

Special well done to Clare for making the most of the weather / feel good factor and changing up your diet! I think the others may be better placed to advise on how to keep hunger at bay (what has worked for them), but be sure to include carbs in your diet (smaller portions) as we do need them despite their terrible rep, if they're high in fibre, even better. If you're having veggies with whatever you're eating, give yourself a bigger portion of those as they're generally not too calorific. Perhaps make a side salad (easy on the dressing) to bulk up your meal. Also drink lots of water as we all mistake thirst for hunger quite often, more so in the heat. Presumably you're already doing this, but a handful of nuts is not only good for you but is also filling, so have some of those in your bag for when you're hungry. I've previously expressed my concern when Preston wasn't eating enough (in my opinion) so the only other thing I can think of is to make sure you're not cutting down portion sizes too much.

Keep it up though, you will find a balance that works for you!

Rawr, I often find that an ice lolly made of fruit juice does not feel as sinful as a magnum etc. No need to cut out ice cream altogether! Fro-yo sounds great though!

And finally... Welcome ejwrank!

Im trying to swap out your traditional desserts for less traditional too like fruit and yoghurt!

My menu for today is
Breakfast
Multigrain rice krispies and milk (est 250kcal or less)

Snack
Apple

Lunch
Breaded prawns and sweet potato wedges with mushroom and a side salad, all with sweet chilli sauce, im guessing since 125g of the prawns was 310 and I had around 100g , that the whole thing may come to around 500kcal.

Snack/dessert
Either 100g of fro-yo or a fruit and yoghurt pot(which I may save for tomorrow come to think of it) trying to save it till 2.30/3pm since I tend to have it straight after lunch and end up being hungry again an hour later!

Dinner:
No idea yet, may be yoghurt and orchard granola, dont want anything too heavy, the heat is putting me off cooking immensely!

Exercise for today will be work tonight!

Thanks for the advice, anakin. I don't like nuts, but I tend to snack on crackers & fruit. It's so true about the water - it's easy to think you're hungry when it's just a lack of water!!

I've also been making lots of smoothies as they're so refreshing in the weather & taste so good! Best to use frozen fruit. Whenever you have fruit that's not too fresh anymore, freeze it. Even bananas that have gone a bit brown - peel, slice & freeze. You can b*y frozen berries from supermarkets. My fave at the moment is banana & strawberry smoothies :) just add a bit of semi skimmed milk & sugar to the blender.

Oh & I also eat a lot of seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, linseed etc), great with fruit & low fat natural yoghurt for breakfast.

Great idea, Clare, and the milk is so good for you too! Actually that reminds me of a great recipe I saw on telly recently (I heart Gino D'Acampo) which was basically:

1. Freeze bananas.
2. Put chopped pieces of banana in blender.
3. Eat what is essentially banana ice cream.

Sin without the sin!

Another thing I've probably mentioned before is that plain popcorn makes a guilt free great snack.
