Senna
Re: Senna
Saw this last night and it was an excellent watch.
Like a lot of the other reviewers I have little interest in F1, but do love sport, so like When We Were Kings the rivalry and glimpse behind the curtain at the great man is what makes this so compelling.
I'd love to see the longer cut which may surface on the Dvd as Im guessing a lot was omitted to help tell a dramatic story. Prost at times felt almost like a pantomime villain against Senna the hero, but not knowing the full story I didnt mind, it made for a great drama. It was also amazing to see his battles with the F1 hierachy and his almost sadness that f1 never quite fullfilles him like karting did.
One other negative was that it was so hard to find this at a multiplex. I ended up at about my 7th or 8th nearest cinema and then there were only about 10 people in there! However they were silent throughout, obviously gripped like me.
Even though Transformers is not out yet I'm blaming Bay and his noisy blockbusters for my extra journey!

Re: Senna
Caught this Friday night at my local Odeon if only because I have a bunch of vouchers that need to be used by the 14th. I've heard so many positive things about this, I figured that I could do worse (and have, Bad Teacher, ugh). I care none at all about F1 and all I knew going in is that it doesn't end well. It starts off a bit slow and I thought it was just going to be too race focused. Yet, before I knew it, I had been totally drawn in, thanks in large to the Prost-Senna rivalry.
This is such a fantastically well put together documentary. This film is very much about Senna the racing legend and Brasilian icon. It doesn't touch on his personal life in any real depth, instead opting to illustrate the very personal impact he had for Brasil and his fans there. The races shown are compelling because of the stories behind them. The days in Imola are haunting and to see Senna on that final day is terribly unsettling. The film leaves the viewer with a lot of ponder. So many decisions played into that fatal crash and if any of those decisions had been made differently, Senna may still be with us today. For me, I was left wonder exactly how someone can be that competitive. This was a man with nothing left to prove to anyone, save for himself. It really is a shame.
As with everyone else, I highly recommend this. 8.5/10

Re: Senna
As a big F1 fan, I was really keen to see this and Vue finally put it on this week so rushed home from work to make the 6.10 screening, all for a bargain £2.70 cheap day Tuesday ticket (bargain!).
Really enjoyed it. The Prost-Senna rivalry really is the crux of the racing element of the story, but what a driver, what an icon and what a loss. Given the untimely death that was just the start of Schumacher, that would have been fascinating to have watched.
He truly was a hero and whether or not you are remotely interested in F1, this is a fabulous documentary.

Re: Senna
After hearing all the good feedback about Senna, I decided to use one of my voucher to see it yesterday, and I was not disappointed. I am absolutely not a F1 fan but I thought this documentary was very thoughtful and educational. He made me upset after Frank Williams, afterall HIS car killed Senna and almost killed Baricchello! Anybody else felt that way?
I felt sick when I saw the footage at Imola; the same way I felt sick when I saw it live 17 years ago!
I remember this Sunday afternoon pretty well; I was watching the Grand Prix at one of my girlfriend's (huge fan of Senna) and she could not stop crying. The media were absolutely helpless, with breaking news on all the channels; they were showing the crash over and over again; and there were all the speculations already about his death/live and why/how it happened...
it made me smile a lot as well... all the French characters in this documentary (and in real live obviously) are jerk
8.5/10 for me!

Re: Senna
Extremely disheartening, as it's one of the best films of the year.
Having said that, congratulations to Project Nim for winning the Oscar, foregone conclusion now for sure.
