Re: Project Nim
One word to describe this film = Powerful.
A wee bit more of a review = thought provoking and sad in equal measure. Hopefully Herb will get his come uppance at some point. How an intelligent creature (NIM, not Herb) could have been raised in that way, passed from hand to hand, abandoned, filled with false hope and abandoned again is unbelievable. Yes there was some happiness in his life, but overall it just seemed like he was being used/abused and dumped whenever it suited Herb's purpose. "Grateful Dead fan Bob" if you are out there I am just happy to know that you were a constant good thing in NIM's life.
My only dissappointment is that this film probably won't get the viewing figures or recognition it deserves. Well worth going to see and everyone coming out the GFT, where I saw it, seemed to be of the same opinion.
ps.. just for the record...... Kevin, I agree with you too.... !

Re: Project Nim
Did others see parallels here with Rise of the Planet of the Apes? The way Nim is raised with a human family restricted to the house, then allowed to roam free in the woods (or an a 28 acre estate here), then abruptly moved to an animal compound where he is caged, not given special treatment and subjected to the electric rods?

That's the date for the Q&A for the Interrupters at Curzon Soho -- a p*ying show.Celini wrote:Q&A will be at Curzon Soho on 8 August
I thought this was a great documentary and am still amazed at the stupidity/arrogance of so many of the people involved. It seemed like a massive ego trip for professor and he seemed interested only in his language research and not the well-being of Nim.
Really glad we got up early to see this. Glad to see prettyxcool and celini and lovely to meet canadian_turtle.

Re: Project Nim
Yes but all the interviews with Stephanie LaFarge were actually here, so some of what appeared to be archive footage must have been recreated.

Re: Project Nim
That's what I am trying to say and I think it's really manipulative but it is their style, they used the same techniques for Man on Wire but at least that film was less political.

I indeed had flashbacks scenes coming from yesterday's screening of ROTPOTA!funthing29 wrote:Did others see parallels here with Rise of the Planet of the Apes? this is the exact same story! even the cages in the Apes facility are pretty much identical!
I was few rows closer to the screen on the left!prettyxcool wrote: @celini - sorry to have missed you again! Where were you sitting?
I regretted not to have move and sit next with you when a guy stinking of alcohol came to sit next me

Re: Project Nim
Interesting it has been confirmed in some professional reviews, there were scenes with a human in a chimp suit and there are issues of villifying Terrace by James Marsh the director
