This kind of isnt a riddle, but this is one that i remember from a while ago and may be old by now, but incase its not:

Without a calculator, add the following up: 1000+40+1000+30+1000+20+1000+10

[spoiler]Answer is 4100. Many people get 5000 for some reason. If your not one of them, consider yourself a genius[/spoiler]
