Re: The Awakening
Agreed, this should have been a long one off tv show on BBC.
Beate was scared though.

Re: The Awakening
I was so apprehensive about the cinema and the film but I admit that I had a great evening. Good seats, good view, good company (apart from a_person who was a pain in the bum, whispering to me that she was bored when I clearly wasn't, LOL) - in fact, the whole last row bar one seat was FMUK-populated I think. Thanks to a_person for keeping seats and to ejwrank for the books.
OH and I both thought the film was cracking. Not scary but spooky at times and very atmospheric. Very beautifully shot, with fabulous actors. The end was so sad and moving, I had tears in my eyes. And I admit I didn't see the twist coming. It had me hooked from the opening scene where a seance is rudely interrupted by Rebecca Hall, proving them all to be charlatans, and it goes on strongly after that when she is asked to investigate a ghostly appearance in a boarding school for boys, where a boy has recently died. There are no bright colours in this film but it just adds to the sad atmosphere where, according to the matron, "it is perhaps understood better than anywhere what it means to be lonely", or words to that effect.
I am glad I came out to see it, I really really liked this, and I wouldn't mind taking a second look now that I know the ending.

Re: The Awakening
I am very confused about the story (thankfully I am apparently not the only one!)... it was entertaining though and found the leads quite gorgeous!
7/10 for me :)
(note for later, do not seat (ever again) 1st row in screen 5!)

Re: The Awakening
Back from Glasgow. I am the biggest wuss there is. Spent most of the film with my eyes shut holding onto OH's hand. Believe me when I say the soundtrack/music is just as scary as the film. Understand now why Radio Times was the sponsor in this SFF as it was a BBC production. 6/10 cos the twist was very well done.

Re: The Awakening
One thing that annoyed me were the noisy ushers, constanly coming in and trampling around. Sound really carries in that screen, you can even hear noise from other screens now and then. It was a suspenseful film and the last thing you need is ushers constantly trampling around.
What was wrong with the front row? Floor sticky?

Re: The Awakening
I was pleased as well, nice and dark in the cinema, really quiet no one talking or jumping apart from me
I'm a sucker for the supernatural, you know the music and set up, that something was going to happen, but I still jump. As Beate said, it was beautifully shot and cracking performances all round. I don't know what else Rebecca Hall was in, I must look her up.
LOl I came home to find I'd won a pair of tickets to this and a Q&A with Professor Richard Wiseman, psychologist and author of ‘Paranormality: Why We See What Isn’t There’, Shame it clashes with Immortals

Re: The Awakening
Believe me, you haven't seen scary yet. I had heart palpitations in The Orphanage! This was nothing.Yinster wrote:Back from Glasgow. I am the biggest wuss there is.
