Re: Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
Well this film's mission to highly entertain was most solidly accomplished!
Cruise rocks as an action stunt hero. In fact more so now than he ever did. Simon Pegg gets a delightful promotion to make us laugh throughout the movie. Brad Bird's first time direction of real actors (must have been a shock when they talked back at him) exhibits the same zestful energy and fun that we got from his animated films such Incredibles and Iron Giant. And Paula Patton who I've never seen before but I sure like get to know her, adds an elegant sexiness to the proceedings. Story is outrageously OTT and thats how it should be.
This film has drastically injected new vigour in the franchise that I now highly anticipate more adventures from Ethan Hunt and his new team than the Next James Bond movie.
8.5/10
Oh and seeing this at the IMAX was a really immersive experience. I noticed that certain vertigo inducing scenes were suddenly in IMAX format and several times toggle between 2 aspect ratios. This isnt a complaint. Quite the opposite. Its a brilliant manipulation of the senses. Its such a pity however, that the projection is not digital and Waterloo's IMAX is showing its age. But the scope of its screenis still second to none.
Oh, my screening sadly didnt have any Dark Knight Rises prologue. I am not complaining about that either, I am very grateful to be given these tickets in the first place :)

Re: Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
Just home from seeing this at the IMAX too.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Scenes where shot really well especially around the tall building in Dubai.
Lived the action scenes and the almost mishaps.
Simon peggs was just perfect. Really enjoyed his character. But how did he get out of the kremlin unhurt? Not even a scratch.
Good film. Worth seeing in the IMAX for scenes.
8/10 from me.
My only bad point was there was some dust on the lens which kept moving around the screen. It really bugged me. And when I pointed it out to my friend half way through. He hadn't seen it but noticed it continuesouly after I said it. Lol.

lol, that was naughty of you! I also noticed the "floaters", it was quite prominent for much of the movie. As I say the IMAX projection is showing its age.Beate wrote:Is that really in the spirit of Christmas?ansbro81 wrote:It really bugged me. And when I pointed it out to my friend half way through. Re: Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
What a fine action movie!
I went there without expecting much; I have rather poor memories of the previous episodes, but I would definitely recommend this one!
And if you can see it on Imax screen, I would say go for it! Some of the scenes are just breathtaking on such big screen!
The plot is everything but original, but it still works very well! The actors are all very well cast; I like Simon Pegg more and more and I actually really enjoy Jeremy Renner (that I hated (I don't know why!) in he Hurtlocker and the Town). Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise, he is alright for a small person, I guess
The new gadgets are just awesome (I won't spoil anything), but I do regret the (heavy) BMW placement...
The direction is flawless (well done Mr Bird), apart from the last 5 minutes... why, oh why do they have to add a layer of cheese on an otherwise very fine movie!
8.5/10 (could have been 9 if they had spare us the last 5 min)
edit: I was really annoy by the dust on the projector lense as well!!!
from time to time it looked like someone was actually trying to blow it away!

Re: Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
Having not seen any of the previous MI films, I think this film did quite well in introducing new audiences to the franchise.
The plot is not overly complex, the acting is competent but not overly taxing, but the highlight is definitely the action scenes. The sequence where Cruise scales the glass building is just breathtaking and the car chases and fight scenes are great to watch too. There were a few scattered moments of comedy which helped lighten the tone. There are definitely plot holes but it is tempting to overlook them because the action elements are so thrilling and enjoyable. 7/10.
Seeing this in IMAX really does enhance the viewing experience. Wow. I also found the dust on the screen was incredibly distracting, not just on the projector but in the top left corner of the screen as well.

Re: Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
A film that starts of with Josh Holloway (no matter how old Sawyer is looking) can't go wrong! I enjoyed this one so much, wow. I have seen the first two MI films, but when they originally came out so didn't really remember them.
I did used to adore the television series and loved how the music mirrored the TV-show (the music of the film was by the brilliant Michael Giacchino btw) and the opening credits were very TV like too.
I do not have too much to say about Tom Cruise. He was fine, but he looked very old. The true stars of the movie in my eyes were Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner (the latter which I wasn't familiar with yet); they were fantastic and hilarious.
Imax seriously enhanced the experience, particularly so in scenes where heights were prominent, I totally gasped at some of the stuff that went on that looked much more spectacular/shocking because of the scale of the Imax screen. The dust was annoying though.

Re: Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
I must be the only one who didn't notice the dust! Yeah, enjoyed this one a lot, a big stupid blockbuster on that stupendous Imax screen, yes it's the same old story about a sketchy madman who wants to nuke the world and someone needs to stop him, but the action is so good, you don't care about the plot. Vertigo sufferers beware!! Simon Pegg was great of course, as were Paula Patton and Jeremy Renner. Michael Nyqvist sadly didn't have much to do other than try and look menacing. And Cruise for once was bearable. Awesome score, that Lalo Schifrin theme tune never gets old. Surprisingly... 9/10 for pure entertainment.
